[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Life Daisy Devlin Designed" by Sharon Black.]
The Life Daisy Devlin Designed is a romantic comedy novel by Sharon Black. The book follows Daisy Devlin, a successful interior architect who owns her business, Discerning Designs. Her life, however, is tossed upside down when her ex-boyfriend, Matt, reenters it.
As the book begins, Daisy learns that Matt, who had abruptly broken up with her and left for the US, is back and has bought the Granary House. Daisy, who desired to work on that, decides to pitch for its redesign despite a warning from her friend and colleague, Laura. Meanwhile, as James, Daisy's current boyfriend, struggles at his job, their relationship experiences some strain, especially because he seems to spend too much time with Alma, their housemate. How will Daisy navigate her complicated relationship with Matt, whose intentions are unclear?
There are a lot of things I love about the book. The dialogue between characters was very engaging and realistic, especially the exchanges between Daisy, Laura, and Fionn, which I found particularly hilarious. The characters were well-developed in a way that made them very relatable. For instance, Daisy's inner dilemma between Matt and James is understandable given her complicated history with Matt. And even James' actions ended up making a lot of sense by the end. The book certainly delivered when it comes to the drama, and it came with a lot of unexpected twists. The writing style was very easy to follow, with good humor and clever dialogue. But my least favorite thing about this book, however, was the number of chapters. I think sixty was too much considering most chapters led directly into the next; it could have easily had half as many chapters. Still, this was a very engaging book. Good luck putting it down once you start reading, especially since it has just a few errors. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was an excellent read. I would recommend this book to lovers of romantic comedy novels.
