Review of The Firefighter's Unexpected Flame
Nick, a firefighter, is a single dad raising an energetic girl, Cassie. When his aging mother decides to go and live in a retirement community instead of continuing to live with him, he is forced to find a new nanny. Luckily for Nick, a beautiful woman, Hanna, had just moved in next door. Hanna is a writer who is between jobs. When she meets Nick, sparks fly. He decides to hire her as a nanny for Cassie, and their relationship begins to develop past a professional one. Will their relationship go anywhere? What will happen with Hanna's career? Read The Firefighter's Unexpected Flame by Nikki Dalton to find out.
I enjoyed seeing the characters' development throughout the novel. Both of the main leads had wants and desires that stemmed beyond their romance. Nick wanted to be with someone who could understand his lifestyle and would be accepting of Cassie. Hanna wanted to pursue her writing career. I thought the characters were dynamic and compelling.
The biggest issue with The Firefighter's Unexpected Flame was the lack of a concrete timeline. There were places in the novel when I thought only a day had passed. Then, the characters' would make some mention of previous conversations that were not detailed in the book, which would indicate to me a much longer time period had passed. I found it confusing to figure out the length of time between scenes. By adding a few more details about the time between events, the book would have been easier to follow.
I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. It was overall well-edited. It was a pleasant read, though it did not stand out as exceptional. I believe that the issue of a lack of clarity on the timeline warrants taking off two stars. Those who enjoy romance novels that contain erotic elements would enjoy this book. It is short enough that it can be read in one sitting, making it perfect for a plane ride or an afternoon on the beach!
