Review of Fire From Embers
For her entire life, Shae has been told she is cursed due to her mismatched eyes. One day, she learns that her curse is related to a growing darkness that threatens to overtake the land. She must go on a journey to stop it. After leaving where she grew up, enemies follow her wherever she goes. She also meets an Elemental named Faelan on her journey. She is unsure of his intentions, but the pair keep meeting. Will Shae learn the truth about her curse? Dive into Fire From Embers by C.M. Johnston to find out.
Johnston created a vivid fantasy world. As Shae traveled the world, she met a diverse cast of characters. Faelan is an Elemental, a species that can control different elements and live far longer than humans. There were normal humans, sorcerers, and other creatures as well. There was also an interesting political situation that was a significant part of the plot. The world was thoroughly developed and easy to imagine.
Additionally, I thought the character dynamics were interesting. Shae faced many enemies, but one of particular interest could be almost described as her nemesis. Commander Drask, a man who enjoys tormenting others, took every opportunity to torture Shae. He was unrelenting in his quest. The increasingly deadly relationship between the two helped to move the plot along and was horrifyingly fascinating to read about.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am taking off one star due to the number of errors I encountered while reading. The book could use additional proofreading. Other than the errors, there was nothing that I disliked about this book. The characters were dynamic, and the plot moved along quickly. It would appeal to those who enjoy fantasy with hints of romance. There is some strong language, but I believe those ages sixteen and up would be able to enjoy Fire From Embers. I thoroughly hope to read more by Johnston in the future!

I also have to congratulate you on your review, it is very well done, especially because it allures readers (it even works on readers who don't like fantasy much, like me!) to embark on this fantastic adventure with such an interesting protagonist like Shae! (I personally would like to learn the truth about her assumed curse already).
