Review of Specular: Scion Saga Book 3
As 19-year-old Carly's wedding neared, the Afrax Panel summoned her to retrieve her parents' belongings. However, things took an unexpected turn, and she was declared a threat to security for having absconded from Afrax custody. With Iksha, the biggest threat to the existence of all descendants still let loose, the claim by the Afrax panel and the loss of her parents put her through a series of emotional turmoil. However, she came to learn of the existence of other greater forces that existed outside of the universe. Carly and Rye were transported to a different universe, where they experienced and learned about a series of events and histories that changed the trajectory of their existence and beliefs. How these uncanny events unfold and transform Carly’s life is all beautifully weaved in Specular: Scion Saga Book 3 by Calix Leigh-Reign.
Readers will experience a range of emotions while reading this book. The book shows the beauty of family, friendship, love, longing, forgiveness, and regret, while also showing how the loss and betrayal of one’s loved one can affect a person's life. Calix beautifully shows the beautiful dynamic that occurs as Carly and Adam evolve and learn to trust each other more while also fighting their hidden demons and opening up to love and care more about the people in their lives without the prejudices of others around them.
I specifically love a lot of things about this book, including how Calix portrays the strength that comes from supporting one another as a family and believing in the trust that binds them together.
Even though the book shows the struggles of young adults and how they navigate life, the theme of love is still well-emphasized. With the magnanimous amount of power Carly has come to possess, she is still concerned with preserving life instead of taking it. I also appreciate the vivid and realistic way the author built each scene while pulling the readers along. The author is impeccable in the description of the plots and introduction of certain characters at important times, keeping us surprised and excited for what is to come. Each chapter of this book comes with its own dynamic suspense, and the humor the author subtly added to the book helps relieve the nerve-wracking suspense.
Specular: Scion Saga Book 3 by Calix Leigh-Reign is the third book of the Scion Saga. Having not read the two preceding, it was a little confusing at first to understand the characters, especially those with alter egos, but as the book proceeds, the book becomes clearer. There is nothing I dislike about this book, just a little bit of confusion about the proper relationship between Vikki and Adam; Vikki always refers to Adam as a little brother, while Adam also refers to her as a little sister, which leaves a confusing note.
The book is excellently edited. I rate the book five out of five stars as it successfully combines suspense, emotion, and memorable characters to create a truly immersive reading journey. The ending of the book gives a movie-like ending, like when the protagonist wins and walks back home with laughter surrounding them.
I recommend this book to readers who love fantasy and sci-fi novels.
