The prospect of finding money at any age is exciting; I don't know what I would have done finding it as a teen! Thanks for your comment.kandscreeley wrote: ↑22 Dec 2019, 18:26 This sounds fabulous! Thank you!LinaMueller wrote: ↑23 Dec 2019, 09:11 Money can, at the same time, solve many problems as well as be a source of conflict. The characters in this book seem to be very interesting. I liked your review as always, Stephanie Elizabeth. Well done.

**Rating: 4 out of 4 stars**
"Hackett Street" by Paul Hastings is a captivating coming-of-age story that delves into themes of self-discovery, family secrets, and moral dilemmas. The Washburn family's move to Milwaukee sets the stage for an intriguing narrative. Tom and Mike Washburn, forced to share a cramped attic room, stumble upon a hidden fortune while trying to keep warm one night. This unexpected discovery leads to a series of events that test their loyalty, integrity, and family bonds.
The brothers, aware of their father's modest income as a reverend, decide to keep the money a secret to avoid it being donated to the church. However, their plan is threatened when their house is broken into, and a mysterious car begins lurking outside, indicating that someone else knows about the money.
Hastings masterfully creates relatable and well-developed characters. Mike, struggling with feelings of inadequacy, stands out as he navigates his strained relationship with his mother, Alice. Each family member faces personal challenges—Tom experiences first love, Annie aspires to join the choir, and their parents deal with church-related issues. These subplots enrich the main narrative without overshadowing it.
The author effectively explores the complex nature of money, illustrating how it can both provide security and create discord. The story prompts readers to reflect on their own values and the potential consequences of wealth on family dynamics.
"Hackett Street" is impeccably written and professionally edited, making for an engaging and smooth reading experience. Hastings' ability to weave multiple subplots into a cohesive story is commendable, and the book's easy readability ensures it appeals to a wide audience.
For those who enjoy stories about family secrets and moral choices, "Hackett Street" is a must-read. The flawed yet lovable characters and the thought-provoking plot make it a standout novel that resonates with readers of all ages.
