Re: The Hunger Games Series vs. Divergent Series

I really liked the first 2 books of Divergent and it probably would have beat out The Hunger Games for me if it wasn't for the final book in the Divergent trilogy. I really didn't like the third book and it kind of ruined the series for me. So I guess I would choose Hunger Games, which was good all the way through I thought.

In my opinion, the writing in the Hunger Games series was the better of the two. To me, it was more consistent throughout, both with the story itself and the characters.

I enjoyed reading both series very much. They were captivating and full of action. I liked how in the divergent series the author did not fully explain everything untill the very last book, it kept me wanting to read all three so I could find out things like what was on the otherside of the fence. I loved how in the hunger games series it was always a surprise ending.

This was an obvious choice hunger games all the way. By the end of divergent I couldnt wait for her to die I was so annoyed with hearing all about how different she was over and over while hunger games was a fresh storyline and kept me coming back for more.

I find it interesting how many people have chose the hunger games over divergent personally I prefer divergent as the storyline just felt easier to understand whereas we all know the general storyline to the hunger games however I feel that the point to the story changes too many times for my liking. However both series are ready good well written but both could so with improvement and I also happen to have read the book battle royale and although it's almost the same plot the actually way of writing is very different

I enjoyed both series but I prefer The Hunger Games. I feel like the writing was better I didn't care for the third book in the Divergent series I though she was playing fill in the blanks not my favorite.

I've read both series all the way through. I feel like I could connect more to Katniss than Tris. I felt like Katniss showed a lot of strength as she faced the challenges of becoming the Mockingjay - the peoples victor. Tris, on the other hand, was a little bit on the whiny side - at least that is how I interrupted it as. I'm a fan of both and I will support both series, but I prefer the Hunger Games over the Divergent series.

I have read both series and enjoyed both immensely. They are well written with great characters and good story lines. And yes, they are compared all the time, with both of them being dystopian novels. In my opinion they are very different, you can enjoy one without enjoying the other. Personally, I enjoyed the Hunger Games series more. Overall, I loved all three Hunger Games books but I was kind of iffy on the second book of the Divergent series, Insurgent. But they were both amazing.

Divergent and The Hunger Games both provide a coming-of-age feeling, but I believe most teens can relate most to Tris in Divergent where are The Hunger Games is geared toward adults.

Going into the factions is like moving to a new high school where you don't know anyone. On top of that you are fighting the inside schedules and demands along with the outside elements in order to become a working member of society. (i.e. moving away from parents and hormones while trying to find where you want to work and be in society).

In The Hunger Games, Kat has already grown into an adult and is able to fend for herself and her family. She is mainly taking on the government in a an unintentional coop. An adult would be able to relate to this better because it is similar to the society surrounding the adults. Adults taking on authority in the work place, in the community and the government. Here Kat has already figured out her society is the cause of the problems shes has but she doesn't have to learn to shoot the arrow from the bow. She already knows how to survive.

They are both fantastic stories which fantastic movies and visuals to go along. However to compare them would be like comparing the capabilities of a school child with a working adult. I think a individuals opinion would depend on the live situation they are in as well as age.

This is just a thought. Is anyone else kind of board of these kinds of books? They are all some sort of post war stories which changed society as we once knew it. They all have their people divided out into Distracts or Fractions. They also have young girls who are the heroes of the series who are usually in some kind of love triangle. These girls also have something to hide and something to fight for. I'm seeing a pattern develop with these YA books. Which one do you prefer, or are you getting sick of these kind of stories as well?

I honestly prefer Hunger Games because in my opinion its written better but there is a trend in dystopian fiction and its the exact same thing that happen when Twilight got big and suddenly everything was about vampires, They see one book on a particular topic and then make it a trend. There are so many out their now with this same formula and yes I am tired of it which is why I am always sifting through books in the YA section for ever trying to find something different or if not different then at least interesting enough to keep my attention.

I read both series. While I liked both of them, they have very different dystopian perspectives. My disappointment with the Hunger series was Katniss's settlement in the third book, it just felt wrong. On the other hand in the Divergent series, it was like the author couldn't conclude without just ending a storyline! I felt cheated in that instance! I don't expect happy endings, necessarily...But I do expect the characters to stay true to form throughout a series! BTW, I just have to ask- Am I the only person sick of the three book series phenomenon?

I read both these series, and I much preferred The Hunger Games. I liked Divergent, but I disliked the last two books, so I was kind of put off the series altogether. I liked The Hunger Games more, because it was more thought-provoking, and enjoyable to read at the same time. Divergent wasn't as interesting, and I felt like it had less depth than The Hunger Games.

I have to say I liked the Hunger Games better, the movies are gorgeous and the story seemed more "real" than divergent ever could be.

These series are both similar in that they are lead by female characters and live in a fallen society which is governed essentially in a dictatorship format, which they find themselves in the position to overthrow. However I feel that the similarities stop there. I am amiss as to judge which one is better because of the difference of the two. I will say however that based on writing alone I would pick the Divergent series over the Hunger games books. I feel that Divergent is written with more proficiency than The Hunger Games. Also if I had to pick between Katniss or Tris. I would pick Tris. Katniss whines too much for my liking. Just do the thing already and get over it.
