What faction would you have chosen at 16?

Discuss the June 2014 book of the month Divergent by Veronica Roth. While only Divergent--the first book of the series--is the book of the month, feel free to use this subforum to discuss the rest of the series or to talk about the movies, but make sure not to post spoilers unless noted in the topic title.

I think me and my family would have been Amity, we lived near a farm growing up and did majority of chores outside. Also since the Amity are kind and generous this fits in well with my family as well

I think I would have been Divergent because just like Tobias I believe we shouldn't be one of these things but have a bit of each. Though when it came to choosing a faction I'm surprised more people did not go for Dauntless because a vast number of teenagers in the 21st century feel the need to live life on the edge. Dauntless wasn't fearless it was reckless and that's what so many of the worlds teenage population in the United States are with their high school life and decisions. That's just my opinion as a wallflower who is watching teenagers in my school make unwise decisions. To be honest I would have also chosen Dauntless because I believe people who are raised on strict rules are just breeded rebels. That's why I am so glad we don't have to make life changing decisions at 16 because if we did we would have a whole lot of factionless.

This is actually a really hard choice for me. I think I'd be divergent. But I'm thankful that I don't actually have to choose a faction because is probably actually end up factionless....

I think I would have been born into Candor, my parents really value being honest even if it hurts somebodies feelings. At sixteen I think I would have chosen Dauntless. I was always looking for an adventure and doing sometimes crazy things. I also was earning my highest belt in Jujitsu at that time. I've always wanted to do something exciting and different and a little bit crazy and reckless. But overall I don't think I'd fit into one specific faction. I do value knowledge and knowing how things work and I also value helping my community and those less fortunate.

At 16 I would have chosen Dauntless as my new fraction. I like new adventures and living life without following the rules.

I probably would have been divergent. I believe you need a combination of all the factions.

I think probably Dauntless because it sounds more fun to me. Everything just seems so dull and boring in the other factions!

I think I would have been born into Amity, and having just taken the test, I am not surprisingly Divergent. What is surprising to me, is that I got a split between, Amity and Abnegation, I had always thought I would have fit in to Erudite. However based on that test, I would say I'd probably stay with Amity at 16.

I would probably be Abnegation born, because my mother has always acted selflessly when raising my siblings and I, and looked out for our best interests before hers. At 16 I most likely would have chosen to stay in Abnegation with my mother and siblings because family matters a lot to me and I've always tried to repay my mother's kindness. I would have been conflicted though because I probably would have felt a strong pull towards Candor and a lesser pull towards Dauntless. I think I would have been Divergent though. Erudite is a lot like me too, but I don't think I'd choose that faction. I feel like making a tough decision like that at age 16 would have been stressful to me but I think I would have made the right choice.

I don't know what faction I would have been born into, maybe Amity or Dauntless, but I would have chosen Erudite.

Hard to say what I would have picked at 16. I was rather sheltered like Tris, minus the mirror thing, which leads me to believe I would have picked Dauntless. I ran out and got tattoos and wanted adventure as soon as I was free to choose on my own. However I have a love for Amity. It is the whole green thumb and provider aspect that calls to me. Then there is Abnegation... To me Abnegation represents safety. There is a sense of security in being completely selfless. As a mom, it seems to get easier and easier to put everyone first, to the point of obligation and guilt if I do not. And if you are expected to be selfless, then there is no guilt, so therefore for me, it would be a natural secure place.

Now that I have written it out I believe 16 year old me would pick dauntless. There was nothing safe or nurturing about me when I was a teenager. But there was a fierce protectiveness and definitely a sense of adventure and rebellion for sure.
