I read Divergent because my boyfriend had listened to it so he could see the movie. He bought me the book and asked me to read it and see the movie with him. The Divergent series is a quick and easy read; to me at least. I have mixed views on this series. I think it's mainly because it's a young adult series. I don't much care for puppy love and the back and forth of it. The focus on every touch they had was a little much. I have recommended it to several people I know and they loved it, while others I would steer away. I think in this category I would give the book three or four stars.

I think my younger sister would enjoy this book more than me, plus she falls into the YA category perfectly and likes these sort of books.
Divergent was a nice read mostly because of the way she wrote that was captivating, plus the factions that they were divided into were interesting and got me wondering which faction I would want to belong into. Probably not Dauntless. Abnegation, I don't know, maybe.

There are a lot of books of this genre about and it takes a very well written one for me to read the whole thing through, And I would say This one is very well written and worth the read, if you're into this kind of thing.

To be honest, with all the hype this book got, I expected to enjoy it more than I did. I enjoyed it, but not as much as all the hype suggested I would. I am a fan of dystopian future type novels, but honestly "Divergent" fell a little flat for me. I just didn't buy the whole factions thing, which the premise of the book is based on. I would still recommend it, for sure, but I'm waiting for the paperbacks of the next two books before I buy them. I haven't seen the movie yet because life got in the way.

I only heard about Divergent when trailers for the movie starting coming out. Call me a pop-nut, but I tend to enjoy reading novels that are then adapted to movies. The whole process provides a mental conversation about the differences between the two.

1. I did enjoy the story
2. The writing was, well...unremarkable. It's a YA series, I don't expect much.

What I did want the author to explore more of was the concept BEHIND the story!

SPOILER:

Genetic supremacy!!

Not a new idea, but I found that Allegiant could've been explored in so many different ways from this concept alone.
In general, if someone was looking for an easy read....something with a little drama and a lot of action, I'd recommend this series.

I liked the first divergent book , but loved the last one!
I think this is mostly because it's the only dystopian book that i've read (so far ) that actually explains why things are as they are (as opposed to the hunger games; delirum ect) .
I still haven't seen the film, but by first impression i think i would be rather disappointed :(

I liked divergent but I thought the sequels let it down and I HATED the last 50 pages of Allegiant.
I'd give it three stars.

Its a good read with a well thought out back story and plot, the characters I felt were the books downfall, but the unexpected turns in the plot were a good distraction.
It was a trilogy which I felt I had to finished, instead of my usual constant need to keep reading I often found myself forcing myself to continue.
The third book did drag on, but the ending shaped my overall view of the book, I didn't expect it and that was what made me see it in a new light.
I found the series a struggle to read but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it, it does tale longer to get hooked than other series but this shouldn't let you give up!
I also watched the movie and would recommend it to anyone who has not read the books or plans to in the future.

I was hesitant to read the series because my first impression was that it was a Hunger Games copy cat. I'm glad it wasn't. I enjoyed this series very much. I do agree that their could've been more world developement, but overall I enjoyed it.

I read Divergent several months ago and really enjoyed it. It really captured my imagination with the society being divided up into factions and made me think of how our world could be in the future or after a disaster. I have read the second book in the series and am starting the third one. The author is very creative and her books though geared to a younger audience have appealed to all ages.

I'm sorry to say I really didn't enjoy this book. I read the excerpt on Amazon and found the concept intriguing enough to put a hold on it at my library. Thankfully, I was patient enough to read the whole book before purchasing it, because my interest waned early on in the book. It just seemed that so many characters were flat, particularly any antagonists that came up in the book. To satisfy my curiosity, I did read an overview of how the book ends, and I may see the movie, but I have little to no desire to read more of this book.

I read it all in one sitting, but the problem was that it was so good that it set really high expectations for the next two books. I was let down with the next two books. But, Divergent was really good and keeps the reader interested. It didn't go on too long explaining unecessary details in the book. It was full of action and adventure and it still had a good mix of romance in it too, which is an added bonus!
I agree. I did enjoy the first book but I felt the last two wandered a bit and just generally let me down. It was written at a good pace and doesn't get bogged down in details but I often found myself annoyed by Tris and her decisions. All that being said, I am hoping that when I do see the film (or films if they make more) that they take the best parts of the books and make for a stunning conclusion.

I liked Divergent, but for me Allegiant just ruined the series.

I would say it was a fair read. I will admit the first book was a good read, but it went down hill after and quite quickly I might add. By the end of the trilogy you are left with more questions than answers. Honestly, you could drive a big mac truck through all the plot holes. I feel like the ending was the author's poor attempt at making herself different from other author's.

I personally enjoyed "Divergent" a lot. Many of my friends had been reading it so I decided to start it and see where it led me. The factions and "faction before blood" rules were very interesting to me. The factions were created so the balance of power would be equal, which implies a harmony. This implied harmony, however, was very soon broken up within the novel, as shown by the disputes and unequal social opinions within some of the factions. Faction did not get along and some even spread lies about others.

The characters were all very well developed and it was very interesting to see the main protagonist go from a girl who feels like she does not belong, blossom into a strong leader who will do what she must to save herself from being factionless and later will save anyone who she needs to while finding love along the way. She has many challenges she overcomes that make her stronger, before the devious plan of her faction uncoils. Personally, I found the book very predictable, but not in a bad way. I very much so enjoyed the book but I just somehow guessed many, many things that would happen. I found the story line very interesting and easy to go through, definitely had me going through the pages as fast as I could turn them.

I have heard the end of the third book so I have not continued past "Divergent" and do not really intent to. Also, if you read the book, do not see the movie because it is awful if you have read this amazing book. In conclusion, I recommend this book because it has a great story line, good pacing, and very strong characters.

I was somewhat pressured into reading this book, but I didn't really care at the time nor now because I knew I would have read it anyways. I generally enjoy sci-fi novels, so I was pretty sure I would enjoy Divergent. I ended up liking the book, and went on to read the rest of the series, but I have a slight problem with the book. I feel like the book was rushed, and perspective was constantly switched between 1st and 3rd. It was especially obvious in Insurgent.
