My overall opinion I really liked the book. Not many books that are a movie keep my attention because I end up stop reading the book and watch the motion picture instead. But this time I did both read the book and then seen the movie. The only thing I didn't like was the ending.

With all the film hype, I really want to read this book! I am so tempted to read this thread, but I don't want to see any spoilers. From my little glimpses I am seeing a lot of positive opinions, so I definitely must get my hands on a copy!

I loved this book. I liked the ending because in a parallel universe it would all make sense. Things don't always have a happy ending and if you end up with that kind of situation, well, it's pretty realistic.
There are people like that out there.

I hope this didn't sound like much of a spoiler.

Gone Girl
3/4 stars
I just gave my copy of this book to my Sister. Clearly I would recommend this one to another person.

My personal favorite genre is a good Psychological Thriller and Flynn does not disappoint! I didn't like Nick. He felt a bit cliche as a straying husband, and I would have appreciated more depth to his character, or perhaps next to his wife he just seemed to ordinary. I have not seen the movie and not sure I want to. I find the movies leave too much of the pertinent details out to be able to fit a specific time span.

It was engrossing and thought provoking and inspired me to buy the other two books written. I love that it surprised me...that was unexpected, as it generally takes a lot to do that.
I am currently reading Sharp Objects, and it has the same catchy rhythm. Gillian Flynn's personality really jumps off the page with each word. I absolutely love the writing.

A movie adaption of this book is in theatre currently and made me pick this book. I have just started reading and already hate Nick for supposedly killing his wife. Though I feel this story isnt so obvious and there's more to it then what is written in the initial pages. :)

I was told to read the book before seeing the movie. 99% of the time I enjoy the book more than the film. I still haven't spent time in the theater watching Gone Girl, however I really enjoyed my time spent with the book. Ms. Flynn's style and perspective shift throughout the book kept me constantly wanting more information and engaged in the story. I thought I had the story figured out at the beginning and was partially correct. Usually this disappoints me and I find a novel less engaging, however Gone Girl kept my rapt attention. The intensity of description of the mental manipulation of the characters was fascinating. I became emotionally invested in both characters and found myself changing "sides" in the story often. It became a fast read for me only because I could not put it down. Jillian Flynn did an excellent job developing characters and manipulating changing perspective to draw me in and keep my attention. Great Read!

Sharp Objects is VERY well done. But I have to admit that Gone Girl is the peak in terms of quality and detail of her works so far. But damn, that book is very messed up. In a good way. I'll have to read it again some time :D

I must prefer the mother daughter dynamics! And the thought of 'Sharp Objects' as a movie sounds better tome. They are both on my favorites list!

I can usually see what it coming in terms of the plot, often they seem very predictable. But this book was NOT like that. I kept thinking that I knew what was coming and then there would be a shift in the story and going in a completely direction. I really enjoyed how the beginning of the story you were sympathizing with Amy and by the end you were sympathizing with Nick. Basically, it was a wonderful book that I would highly recommend.
Yes, I agree that the author manipulates the reader. When a reader reads a book, they automatically believe the narrative that is being told, because that is what you are supposed to do when you read a book. But what if the story itself is a lie - this makes you doubt everything.

I found this to be a really trippy book. I don't know how much I "liked" it, but it was definitely an enjoyable read.

I found the plot to be daring in its approach; not many books are honest about marriage and the patriachy, sacrifices and pain as well as the good parts, that occur. I found the ending a little diaappointing as I wanted a "healthy" finish. The ending was however, very true to the characters, who I found amazingly intricate and well written, even though at times I hated them both so much!
