Polly Richards' novel "Adele and the Whispering Garden" is a captivating tale for young readers. Adele and her family had relocated to a new house, and she seemed very enthusiastic about both her new residence and the garden. Nevertheless, she hoped for the garden to regain its magical qualities, and as soon as she made her wish, a gnome that she referred to as Albert came to life.

Initially, the illustrations lacked color, yet they effectively conveyed the story and were purposefully dull. The writing is incredibly simple to understand and perfectly suited for the target audience. Even though the book contained a few difficult words, the author made it a point to clarify what each of those words meant at the end of the book. In addition, she included a brief guide explaining the process of making compost and how to maintain it. This ensures that the reader does not have to repeat the novel in order to help with the fermentation process.

At the beginning of the novel, the graphics were devoid of color, but as the narrative progressed, they got increasingly colorful as more magic was infused into the garden. This is something that I really enjoy. Furthermore, I found the story charming, especially the incorporation of the gnome. The author's decision to incorporate guidance on how one makes compost into the narrative is something that I find very appealing. I believe it will help a child keep their attention while reading the story and learn something new in the process.

With the exception of a few repetitions of words, the book had no shortcomings. I give this book a perfect five out of five stars because I found it to be really enjoyable. The fact that the author was able to make it educational while also including some aesthetically pleasing images for children to appreciate is a bonus. The book seemed flawlessly edited, as I found no errors in it.

The writing level that was used to tell the story is the reason why I would recommend this book to youngsters who are between the ages of eight and twelve. Children who have demonstrated an interest in gardening and garden maintenance should also read this book.

The concept of a garden coming to life through a child’s wish sounds magical and engaging for young readers. The use of illustrations that evolve with the story adds a creative touch, and the inclusion of practical gardening tips makes it both fun and educational.
