When Shadow is finally ready to head back home, he’s come so far that he doesn’t know which way home is. Will Shadow ever locate his family once more? Kathy Kovar wrote Shadow's Adventure Home, and Mardel Rubio illustrated it.
The true story of the author's own cat, who went missing for two years, serves as the basis for this children's book. The story is told from Shadow’s perspective in the third-person point of view.
Being a cat person, I loved that the story centers around a cat. Shadow was brought to life by the author. I could picture Shadow stalking his prey. When Shadow got lost, I was sad. Shadow will be relatable to children easily. Another great aspect of the book was the drawings. They appear to have been drawn with colored pencils. Without being over-animated, the characters appear realistic. They are colorful enough to capture a young child’s attention. My favorite picture was one of Shadow hiding under the bed. There are more drawings than pages with text, making it ideal for younger readers.
The vocabulary is simple; I found no hard words. The only problem I could see is that some of the pages had too many words. While children in kindergarten would enjoy the story, I don’t think they would be able to read that many words on their own. However, it would be an excellent tale to read aloud to a family or class. The book was also exceptionally edited. There were no errors in its pages. I especially appreciate this in a children’s book because they haven’t learned many of the rules yet. It’s nice to set a good example for them to follow.
Overall, I found that Shadow made me feel like I had a cat of my own. The editing was well done, and I enjoyed looking at the pictures. I give Shadow's Adventure Home a rating of four stars because of these factors. I recommend it for any elementary-age children; the younger ones might need an adult to read it aloud to them, though
Shadow's Adventure Hom
I do hope that Shadow will find his family after having a great adventure. It seems like a lovely and educational book. I appreciate your recommendation.

Pets are great characters for children to relate to, as most children feel close to their own pets. The cat's adventures and decisions in the story can be very appealing to children.

Kovar’s storytelling is simple yet captivating, making it perfect for young readers or as a bedtime story. The illustrations (if included in the edition) add charm and help bring Shadow’s world to life. Themes of bravery, friendship, and the importance of home are woven beautifully throughout the story.
This book is ideal for children ages 4–8, though animal lovers of any age will enjoy the tale. It’s a sweet reminder that even when we lose our way, kindness and determination can guide us back to where we belong.
