This book contains a lot of valuable lessons on responsibility and caring for others. I think it would send a nice message to kids.

It is excellent to teach children values from tender. It develops and nurtures the humanity in them. The story of Nico and his obvious delight with Kim underlies comradeship, and his sadness at not understanding the sudden change in that friendship conveys a deep connection that was formed. "NICO" by Marlene Rattigan lives up to its name as a children's book worth reading.
