Review of Sock Lobsters
Sock Lobsters is one of the sweetest and cutest children's books I have ever read. This book is written and illustrated by the creative Michelle Bulriss. The book tells the story of two socks knitted with love by Emily's grandma. But this pair is not an ordinary pair. They were knit from magical yarn! This means that the pair could talk. The two lobster socks are Sebastian and Lola. These two are best friends, but they both view the world differently. Lola is optimistic, unlike Sebastian who is a pessimist. When they are shipped to Emily, an adventure awaits them that will teach both valuable lessons.
I loved everything about this short children's book. The story is creative as it teaches children about dealing with and processing emotions. There are hidden gems for adults too. The book is beautifully illustrated with colorful and bright pictures. I loved that Michelle illustrated Sebastian on a black background while Lola was on a multi-color background. This was to show each lobster's character. I also loved how she classified the different levels of emotions that we all go through.
This book will be an invaluable teaching tool for children. It can be used as a conversation starter to teach children about the process of grief too.
The only downside to this cute book is the small prints. However, I know that the book will look great in print, and this is excusable. I would buy this book for my child if I got it in the print version. However, the e-version is still sufficient in the meantime.
I recommend this book to parents with young children who want to teach them about processing emotions. Elementary teachers would also benefit from this book. This book is exceptionally well-edited and does not have a single error. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because it made me smile from the start to the end. I also loved that the author's bio indicated that she wants to save the world someday. All the kids would love that! The book can be read in a short time, which will benefit children with short attention spans.
