[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "My Dad's New Legs" by Nora Mansor-Clark.]
There is a strong bond between Arianna and her dad, and among other things, they would have a great time swimming and playing in Calamvale Park. Unfortunately, this wonderful father-daughter relationship is threatened when Arianna's dad was involved in a serious accident and the doctors, after weighing every possible option, come up with an inevitable course of action—something that would break Arianna's heart the more and leave her questioning whether life with her dad will ever remain the same. But could there be light at the end of the tunnel? Time will tell.
My Dad's New Legs is a children's story written by Nora Mansor-Clark. I found the story really interesting and especially appreciated the way the author crafted the opening narrative to engage with the readers. We meet Arianna, who immediately introduces herself, her dad, and the fun moments they both share. The narrative picks up from here, presenting the challenges that came up and how the family members struggled to navigate them. In all these, the power of the support system and a positive mindset stand out.
This story has provided a veritable avenue through which children can better understand the various shades of life. Life cannot always be rosy, and, for sure, it cannot always be sad. Anything can happen at any time, and the condition of things may never be the same. It's fine to purge our emotions, but then what truly matters is how we decide to play the card we are dealt with. There are great lessons to learn from the way Arianna, her dad, and her mom carried themselves during their trying times.
The story is very simple to read, and I liked that easy-to-understand explanations were given in areas where technical terms were used. I am impressed with the beautiful illustrations. They helped enrich the story's depth and impact. The text was thoroughly proofread. There is nothing I think could be improved in this book, and considering the aforementioned merits, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It was a great experience reading My Dad's New Legs. I am pleased to recommend it to every child.
