Buttons & Zippers (Bilingual Edition) by Franklin H. Pérez is an adorable children's book recommended for ages four to ten. I loved everything about this book and wouldn't change a thing. I found no errors in my readthrough due to the exceptional editing.

I thought the illustrations in Buttons & Zippers were cute and whimsical. I found myself taking longer on pages after reading to appreciate it. Kids who pick up the book will also enjoy the pictures that go along with this story making them engage with the plot.

This story is about two cousins. Little Mikey is a fan of buttons, and Joshua is a fan of zippers. Their love of opposite things on their clothes leads to races to see which is better. Is it faster to button up Mikey's pajamas or zipper up Joshua's? I enjoyed the sense of competition in this story. It's something that every child deals with, whether with their family or kids at school.

The resolution that is found at the end of the book with the tailor is a good lesson for kids to learn. It teaches kids that not every race will be won. It teaches kids that sometimes competitions will be tied, and that is okay.

I'd recommend this book to anyone with children in their life or to any children's section in a library. This is a good read to incorporate into reading circles for kids or for siblings who are going through their 'I can do anything better than you' phase. I was able to also read the Spanish version of this book. I haven't read a Spanish children's book since I was a child myself, and I look forward to buying it for the bilingual kids in my family.

For all the reasons above, it was easy to give this book five out of five stars. If you're looking for a holiday gift for some of the children in your life then I urge you to grab this one.

This charming story follows two cousins, Little Mikey, who loves buttons, and Joshua, who prefers zippers. Their playful rivalry leads to a race to see which is faster: buttoning Mikey’s pajamas or zipping Joshua’s. The story captures the spirit of friendly competition, something every child can relate to, whether it’s with family or peers.
