[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Just-In Time To Be Kind" by Michele Hornsby.]
Just-in Time to Be Kind is a children's story written by Michele Hornsby and illustrated by Rizkia Gita. Michele wrote this story in memory of her son, Justin, to tell what a sweet soul he was and what a worthy life he lived.
The story is built on the foundation that anyone can be a superhero and exceptional in different ways. There are other important points attached to this central theme: the place of parents in shaping their children's worldview and aspirations, the importance of having the right motive for an action and the contagious nature of anything good. These are thoroughly demonstrated as Justin follows his mom to the grocery store and as he goes to the park to play basketball with his friends.
Justin is not just kind; he finds pleasure in being kind. And he shows up just at the right time to help people at their points of need. His kindness is such an unconditional goodwill for giving a helping hand and making the world better in his own way. This is evident in the way he responded to Grandma Ruby's expression of gratitude. This is something remarkable, which I believe will not only inspire children to involve themselves in worthy causes but also to do so without selfish interests.
Justin's mom is also exceptional. She shows what it means to be a responsible and responsive parent. Her conviction—that "anyone can be a superhero"—inspires Justin in remarkable ways, and she supports him whenever he is prompted to show people kindness.
I do not have any complaints to report about this book, and I do not think there is anything that could have been done better. The illustrations are rich and added much depth to the story. I did not find any errors or typos in the text. And finally, I was impressed by the incredible positive influences in this story. For these reasons, I rate Just-in Time to Be Kind 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to parents looking for a compelling and impactful story for their kids.
