[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Lessons From Harlow" by Licia Chenoweth.]
Lessons From Harlow by Licia Chenoweth tells the story of Raini, who lives with her father, Gerry. While her father is away on a business trip, Phoebe, her dad's girlfriend, watches over her. Everything went like the life of an ordinary teenager until a small incident occurred, and Raini got caught in a whirlwind of problems that turned out to be quite serious. In the midst of her confusion, fortunately, she has loyal friends who help her. Will Raini be okay?
It’s been a while since I read a children's book. It takes me back to my old days, very nostalgic. For the first couple of pages, I was kind of confused about deciphering the character's name because there are a lot of names mentioned, but after finding out who is who, my reading experience went smoothly.
I love how the author put tiny bites about Raini’s family story. Like mentioning her mom in the beginning and leaving it hanging. It gives me a little curiosity as I proceed to read the book. And when the author gives a tiny bit of the background story, I love it. And how they try to find a way out that suits the minds of children in their early teenage years. This book still has room to grow. I feel that towards the end, instead of making a time jump, it would be better if the problem-solving was explained and how adults took care of this at the end.
After all, I am hooked. This book can be finished in one sitting. It is light and very entertaining. When reading it, I feel like I am on this adventure with Raini, Harlow, and Cecilio. I didn't have any expectations at first, but after reading it, I was entertained. Therefore, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book for readers who need a light and entertaining story and also an adventure.
