Dreaming big begins with small victories. Each step counts toward greatness, whether it is classroom success or individual achievement. This book explores one exciting day in Doug's life, showing how a single experience can spark limitless possibilities.

The book starts with Doug getting a ride from Ms. Abigale after a great day in school. His class had received a pizza party for being the best behaved. While on the ride, he chatted with Ms. Abigale and Casey about his class and how well-behaved and neat his class was this year. Doug's excitement doesn't end here as Ms. Abigale drops him off for his baseball match. He meets his mom, says hi, and heads to the dugout. With the game underway, the tension mounts, and readers are drawn into Doug's thrilling day in the book titled Guess What! written by Claire C. Crosby.

We learn about his fun moments and the outcome of this intense match as the teams take turns leading. Claire did an impressive job in this book, and I like how she presents Doug as a child, making him feel real and relatable. His excitement is contagious, and I like that he is inspired to think bigger. The way his class in school is presented is nice and would encourage young readers to emulate Doug and his class. The book expresses and builds the baseball game in a very interesting way. I also like that the book explores themes like determination, teamwork, family support, and many more. Lastly, the conversations between Doug and the adults in the book felt natural.

I don't have any suggestions or dislikes about the book. While reading it, I found a few errors that did not affect the book's flow. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to children between the ages of 5 and 10.

It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed "Guess What!" by Claire C. Crosby! Your review beautifully highlights the book's strengths and its potential impact on young readers.
What truly resonates with me from your comments is the idea that "Dreaming big begins with small victories." This book seems to perfectly embody that sentiment through Doug's exciting day. It’s not about some grand, unattainable goal, but about celebrating the immediate triumphs—a well-behaved class earning a pizza party, the thrill of a close baseball game. For a young reader, seeing their own everyday achievements reflected and celebrated can be incredibly empowering.
I love how you pointed out Claire Crosby’s skill in making Doug feel "real and relatable." That's so crucial for children's literature. When a character's excitement is "contagious" and they're "inspired to think bigger," it speaks volumes about the author's ability to connect with her audience. It sounds like she's crafted a protagonist that kids can genuinely see themselves in, making the lessons about determination, teamwork, and family support feel authentic rather than preachy.
The way the baseball game is presented, with mounting tension and back-and-forth leads, sounds like a fantastic way to engage young minds and teach about perseverance in a fun, exciting context. And the natural-sounding conversations between Doug and the adults—that's a subtle but powerful detail. It creates an environment of trust and genuine connection, further reinforcing positive themes.
Your enthusiasm for the book is infectious, and it’s clear why you'd give it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. Despite the minor errors you found, they didn't detract from the overall enjoyment, which speaks volumes about the strength of the storytelling. Recommending it for children aged 5 to 10 feels spot-on, as this age group is perfectly poised to grasp those valuable lessons about small victories leading to big dreams.
It sounds like "Guess What!" is a heartwarming and inspiring read that truly captures the magic of a child's day and the limitless potential that can spring from a single positive experience.
