[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "My School Sports" by Ersen Buyuknisan.]

My School Sports: What Am I Good At? by Ersen Buyuknisan is a children’s picture book about Luke and Lucy and their sports day at school. Luke, Lucy, and their class learn to play multiple sports during the day. Some they like, and some they don’t. What do they learn as they go through this sports day? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

The pictures in this book are excellent. They are bright and colorful, and they perfectly match the content of the story. The illustrator is Kyle Tristan Completo. This illustrator is very talented, and I hope to see more of their work. I also like that the background of each of the pages is a different color. These colors are subtle, so they don’t distract from the story. My favorite part of the book is the lesson that is taught. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal the lesson without spoiling the book, but it’s a good lesson to learn and one that I hope to instill in my own children.

Unfortunately, the book has just as many negative aspects as it does positive aspects. The book is not professionally edited. There are several errors throughout the book including misplaced punctuation, incorrect verb agreement, and inconsistent tense. I think that the editing in children’s books is more important than in any other genre because children are so impressionable. It is disappointing that this book doesn’t seem to be edited.

Additionally, the book seems to be written for young preschool to school-aged children. The writing is very simple, which is best for this age. However, the wordiness and the length of the material aren’t exciting for this age group. It drags on in a way that would be difficult to capture the attention of this young group. For example, it takes over five pages of text before the siblings actually get to school. However, the majority of what is said within these pages isn’t actually relevant to the remainder of the book. Condensing some of the material would help keep these young readers on track.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars. I took off a star for the editing and a star for the overall writing style. The illustrations and the lesson are redeeming qualities, but the book could be improved upon. It’s not necessarily a book I would avoid reading to my kids, but it is one that I’m not confident they would enjoy.

I think My School Sports: What Am I Good At? has good intentions but some drawbacks. The illustrations are amazing bright and captivating, which really attract children. However, I was disappointed by the lack of professional editing. I noticed grammar and punctuation mistakes that should have been corrected. The writing also seemed a bit too wordy for the target age group, with parts dragging on. The lesson in the book is good, but overall, it could be improved by being more concise and better edited.

I am always interested in children's book with colorful illustrations, it is such a dissapointment that this book has not been professionally edited nor was it actually written in young kids.
