Losing a loved one or anything valuable can be quite challenging for both parents and children. However, there are ways one can overcome this so that the bereaved person moves on and makes peace after losing the loved one. In this book, we meet three children who are each dealing with the death of a loved one. Pete lost his grandfather, John lost his grandmother, and Zoe lost her dog. Discover how these children learn to overcome the loss of their loved ones by reading the book How to say a Good-bye! by Dr. Maria Stylianou.

I would like to first thank the author for writing a book about a topic that is rarely discussed or talked about in society. Not only that, but the mere fact that the target audience is children also makes me treasure this book more. Most times, children and even adults don’t know how to process losing a loved one, but this book presents an approach that I would personally use if my child or anyone I know were struggling with losing a loved one.

There are several things I liked about this book. I liked the illustrations used in the book as they are visually appealing and also explain the actions of the characters. Kudos to the illustrator, Andreas Chasomeris, for the amazing job.

I also liked the lessons presented in this book. After reading it, I have learnt how to actually console a person who has lost a loved one and misses them dearly. Prior to reading this book, I would just say, 'Sorry,' or 'May their souls rest in peace.' However, this won’t be the case anymore.

There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book, which was beautifully illustrated and provided vital lessons. For these reasons, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I only discovered one error, which means the book was well-edited. I recommend it to parents, children, or anyone who is dealing with the loss of a loved one.

I really appreciate how it gently helps kids understand grief—such an important topic that’s often overlooked. Sounds like something every family should have on their shelf.

How to say a Good-bye! by Dr. Maria Stylianou is a book every child should read especially one who lost someone. Teaches them how to handle grief because ideally every child is at risk of losing an older loved one. Good job on the review.
