Josh the Fire Truck, by Bob Goldstein, is a children's book about a fire truck named Josh.  Josh was used to working at the fire station and being the best fire truck around. Kids and adults all loved Josh! But one day, a new fire truck came to the station.  How will Josh's life change?  Will he still be useful and bring smiles to children's faces?

This book is actually based on a real fire truck in New York.   I liked that a real picture was included at the end of the book.  My favorite part of the book was the illustrations.  They were cute, and kids would enjoy them.  They were colorful and helped bring the story to life. However, I wish there had been a picture on every page to help keep the reader's attention better. Having multiple pages that only include words doesn't work well for a children's book.

The part of the book I liked least was the fact that it just wasn't exciting.  Quite frankly, I was bored reading it.  I know it was aimed at children, but I don't think my children would have enjoyed it either.  It needed a bigger event as the central conflict.

I would recommend this book to children who love fire trucks.  Even though it wasn't very exciting, it was still a cute story.  Parents could read the book and then do a fun activity around it.

I would rate Josh the Fire Truck 3 out of 5 stars.  I wouldn't rate it any lower because it was exceptionally well edited, and the pictures were cute.  However, I can't rate it any higher because it wasn't engaging enough for a children's book.

Although Josh the Fire Truck wasn't my favorite, it's still worth giving a try if you know a child who loves fire trucks!
