I was delighted to read this book about the old West. I was a child in the 1950s, and I still remember the old cowboy TV shows. This book takes the reader back to those times.

Here is what you will experience on your journey with Boyd Lee Parker:

Imagine riding your horse on a cattle drive.
Imagine sitting on a fence watching a cowboy break a wild Mustang.
Imagine hearing Cookie calling in the cowboys for a meal out on the prairie.
Imagine seeing Indian braves watching you from a ridge.
Imagine entering dusty saloons to see cowboys playing cards and drinking whiskey.
Imagine learning about the cowboys’ love of their horses.
Imagine rocking in your rocking chair on the porch, enjoying a beautiful prairie sunset.
Imagine meeting old cowboys and listening to their stories.

Boyd was 10 years old when his family died in an Indian raid. He survived, and the Union officer that found him took care of him. As the boy grew, he was fortunate to make acquaintances with various famous people. As a man, Boyd encompassed the outstanding qualities of the brave and rugged cowboys of the old West.

The author hinted at future books. I encourage him to write more books. His writing style is perfect and entertaining, with never a dull moment. I loved the danger and the bravery. Boyd’s life had his trials. His love for his horse, his friends, and his women are the best parts of the book. This book is appropriate for readers of all ages.

There were some typos. The editing could have been better. As I was reading this book, which is written by a 77-year-old, I thought he must have remembered the old cowboy TV shows too. Happily, younger generations of readers can visit the old West with this book.

I found the book to be one of the best historical fiction books that I have read. Other than the editing, there was nothing else that I disliked about this book. I liked the book because the author made the story real by using descriptions of the surroundings, introductions of the diverse kinds of characters, and insertion of the progress and historic events of America’s West during Boyd’s life. Because of the reasons above, I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Boyd, a 10-year-old survivor of an Indian raid that killed his family, was taken in by a Union officer. As he grew, Boyd befriended notable figures and became a man embodying the courage and strength of the legendary cowboys of the Old West.

It doesn’t seem like good Wild West fiction is common these days. This one seems really interesting. Would love to give it a read, hopefully the author will make it a series as well. Great review!

Review: Well, I gotta say, this book about the old West sure sounds like a good read, ya'll! As someone who grew up watchin' them cowboy TV shows in the 50s, I reckon this book takes ya right back to them times. It sets the stage real nice with ridin' on a cattle drive, watchin' wild Mustangs gettin' broke, and sharin' meals with cowboys out on the prairie. And let me tell ya, the excitement don't stop there! You'll also get to see Indian braves, visit dusty saloons with cowboys playin' cards, and even hear tell of some mighty fine horse-lovin'.

Our protagonist, Boyd Lee Parker, sure had a tough start to life, losin' his family to an Indian raid at a young age. But, he finds his way and makes some real interestin' acquaintances along the way. Now, the author mentioned more books in the future, and I think that's somethin' worth lookin' forward to. The writin' style keeps things entertainin' without a dull moment. And even though there were a few typos, somethin' to reckon with that could be improved, this book still transports ya back to the old West like no other.

Overall, I'd give this book a solid 4 out of 5 rating. It's one of the best historical fiction books I've come across, takin' ya on a wild ride through the past. So, saddle up and get ready to experience the old West, my friends! Unforgettable journey, filled with twists and turns.

The book offers a nostalgic look at the Old West, capturing the essence of cowboy life through Boyd’s experiences, from cattle drives to encounters with Indian braves. The author’s vivid descriptions and engaging storytelling create an immersive experience. While there are some editing issues, the narrative is enjoyable and suitable for readers of all ages. I appreciate the historical details and character depth, but I might hold off on reading this for now due to the editing concerns.
