Amulet’s Rapture by Linnea Tanner is an intense story and the third book of the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. It begins after Catrin has been captured and turned into a slave. Decimus, her master, changes her name to Vibius and cuts her hair short to make her look like a boy. Decimus was told that Catrin must remain chaste to keep her connection to Apollo. He knows that if she is found out to be a woman, she would be defiled and raped by those in his Roman legion. The book outlines Catrin’s journey as Decimus’s slave, a gladiator in training, her use of magic, her love for Marcellus, her husband, unlikely friendships, and all that she faces in the years after her home, Britannia, has been taken over by her half-brother Marrock. There are many mythological aspects to this book, including Druids/Druidesses, raven spirits, the Wall of Lives, the Otherworld, spirits of the dead, visions, and so much more. The author truly transports you into another lifetime and world than what we live in today.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 rating. I enjoyed reading this book and wanted to see what was going to happen. The story moved along quickly, and there was a lot of historical and mythological information woven into the story. The author writes in such detail that you can almost see, smell, and feel what the characters are going through. Some chapters end with a cliffhanger, which keeps you interested and ready to read the next chapter. There is action, love, suspense, danger, and gore throughout the whole book. There are a few reasons why it is not a perfect rating. One reason is that the book does need to be edited a little better. Also, I did not like that there were so many characters throughout the book. Some were just side characters that were only mentioned for a chapter, and others would come back later in the book. It was hard to keep track of who was who and what their significance was. The book is pretty detailed and gruesome at points. I could have done with a little less detail on some of the gross parts.

I recommend this book to those who are interested in historical and mythological books mixed with a little bit of romance. This book is part of a series and should be read in order to fully understand what has happened and why the characters act the way that they do. The book is so detailed, a bit gruesome, and gory, so readers should be aware of that aspect.
