The review provided valuable insights. The plot appears captivating, set in a traditional world far removed from modern times. I'm excited to dive into the book and discover more of what the author has in store.

This book is unique as I don't often read books that delve into Chinese heritage. I see Chinese citizens everywhere I turn, and it feels like they’re present all over the world, yet little of their story is known through books not written in Chinese. I look forward to reading this and hope to learn more about the culture, people, and how they have evolved as a society. They have a very sophisticated community and creative population. I hope to see this reflected in the book. Thank you for the detailed review it piqued my interest. Congratulations to the author on being selected for BOTD.

Would love to read this during my spare time. However I noted that Cheong Pak-ho's son, Joseph, has a rather 'un-Chinese' name and I don't know if there is any rationalization for it(such as the mother being British or Christian) or not.
Congrats on BOTD.

What a creative book by Tony Henderson! Writing a book filled with many Chinese traditions and traditional plot devices is challenging, but Tony deserves applause for creating this storyline wonderfully. I just read the sample, and I am intrigued to find out more about this book, the Triads, Cheung Pak-ho's development, his son Joseph, and so much more that the book offers. It looks fascinating, and I will make an effort to give it a try. Congrats on Book of the Day!

Looks like an interesting thriller revolving around drugs, prostitution, and clubbing life. I look forward to reading the rest of the book.

History depicted as it was- is the focal point of the book according to the review. The practices prevalent in the society at that time are described well. I am not into reading history books and would skip this one. I can't read about trauma at this moment. Congratulations on BOTD.

Intriguing historical fiction set in China, with a captivating storyline, vivid descriptions, and thought-provoking themes. The red cover caught my eye, and I'm eager to dive in.

The novel has a compelling title and an intriguing plot. I'm curious whether Joseph will follow his father's vendetta or build his own path.

The novel sounds dark and the protagonists' persuit of success and wealth in an atmosphere of disloyalty, betrayal in post war China, creates a sombre atmosphere. I am going to enjoy reading the book and learn more about Chinese history. Thanks for a wonderful review!

Thank you for such a detailed and insightful review of The Shanghai Circle! The way you described the traditional setting and the historical context, particularly with the presence of triads and the depiction of war-torn Shanghai, really intrigued me. I was especially struck by the complexity of the characters—Joseph being a ‘trophy son’ expected to take over his father's triad leadership, and Davina facing the challenge of succession in a male-dominated society. It seems like the author has done a fantastic job of blending personal struggles with historical and cultural elements, and I appreciate how you highlighted that. I also liked your point about how the book makes you reflect on how far society has come with modern technology and the end of certain inhumane traditions. Were there any particular moments that stood out to you in terms of character development, especially with someone like Irina who seems to have to compromise her values for survival? Thanks again for the thorough review—it’s made me excited to read this book!
