Official Review: Sister B by David Charles Hart

A few things about the story that made it difficult to find the narrative enjoyable. I was turned off by the mother leaving her young child. The language used and the formatting on Kindle was distracting. I am not convinced Akio could have been so naive not to question the Japanese military's reasons for asking him to take pictures of the coastal regions of the western United States, especially with their past advances into foreign territories and the economic climate in Japan at that time. It took away from his being a believable character in the story. That and a couple of things mentioned in the review led me to think I might have to pass on this one.

I'm not into historical fiction but this novel develops important themes that are still central today offering different points of view with African American and Japanese characters. Thank you for your great review!

But why does she leaves her son behind? It seems rather convenient to do it. I don't know but that just bothers me even though I don't know the circumstances. But I can't praise someone for being a great person if they are a bad parent. Informative review, job well done.

This historical novel with mystery and romance is about racial challenges. I too like the quote, "All it takes is one person to show forgiveness and another to say I'm sorry and mean it, followed up by action, and the world will be a better place." A well written book and book review.congratulations on the BOTD!

I don't think I'll be reading this book, as it's not from my preferred genre. However, I think Sister B's life is very inspirational, and it will help create awareness about racial discrimination among people who know little about the gravity of the issue. I hope people who like the genre end up enjoying the book. Thank you for the review!

Racism is an existential threat everywhere. I am an ardent reader of war history and historical fiction, and I guess this is a must-read. Thanks for the review.

This a nice book. I always love historical fiction especially on racism. I just love how sister B fought against racism among blacks

I tried to read the sample, but the language used was too much for me, as a non-native English speaker. The review, though, was enlightening. It seems to be an interesting novel about racial discrimination, women's fight and many other secondary themes.

I love historical novels, but I don't believe this one is right for me. I am sensitive to the sexual content, and also, I don't care for the fact Sister B left her son behind! Thanks for the insightful review!

This sounds like an inspiring and interesting read. Genuine forgiveness is definitely something we could use more of, and the discussions of historical racial injustices that are unfortunately still prevelant today are going to be informative. Thank you for your review!

Despite being fiction. The storylines of such novels are sadly a reality for many people. Regardless, congrats on being BOTD.

Sister B appears to have been a remarkable woman who campaigned for African-American rights. I'm astonished by the sacrifices she's made. I'm curious to see how her relationship with the Japanese man Akio develops. Fantastic review!
