oof! Perfectionism is a hard character trait to treat well! Good on the author to point out that even though it sounds "perfect," perfectionism really is not.

In "The Stoker Trilogy, Book II: The Tally Man" by Tod Benjamin, Charlie Horace Stoker got married to a Catholic girl he didn't love and who didn't love him either. He had a mentor and succeeded in his vocation, but his personal life was in shambles. I am glad that He found love again. Congratulations on BOTD. Insightful review.

I am curious to know more about Stoker's life, stuck in a forced marriage and not finding peace even with all his achievements. Thanks for the thoughtful review!

Charlie sounds like a multidimensional character. The Stoker Trilogy, Book II: The Tally Man, by Tod Benjamin seems more like a character-driven story than a plot-driven one. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it!

The character of Charlie and the story around him seem engaging since he is portrayed as an imperfect perfectionist. I agree that wealth, success and hard work will not always satisfy a human being's longing for fulfillment. The book seems to convey some useful lessons regarding work-life balance. Sounds interesting.

"The best investment is the one with human beings". I liked this sentence the most in the whole review. The way he describe everything both good and bad show how involved the reader was while reading. It makes the audience tempting to go and read the story again and again.

In addition, to be loved and to give love in return is still the greatest feeling any man can have. When this doesn't happen, a void is left in the heart of such persons. And all they do revolves around filling up that void. Even the greatest bachelor in the story knows this. I was happy when he professed his love for Millie Stoker. Love is not far from us, but some have chosen to shut the doors of their hearts to love, which will always come back to hunt us.
The Beatles were right all along :D
I enjoyed the theme of mentorship Benjamin highlights. Investing in people is the most fulfilling of all the investments a man makes. Charlie rose to the top as a tallyman and even as a salesman because he was submitted to a highly successful and intelligent business magnate, Stephen Collick. He kept an open spirit towards everyone he met, earning him the love of all and sundry, especially ladies. I expected to see Charlie rise to the top of the ladder of high-ranking men in the company, but the path he chose left me shocked and somewhat disappointed.
Indeed, we don't talk enough about the importance of mentorship. OBC has brought this back into the spotlight, and its social impact is huge.

Great review!

I admire your review sir you've stored the book to my memory through your review summary. I imagine Charlie's character via your review summary that he was a free and open person to his wife and business life, even though he acquired his love eventually for his wife. He was able to move forward in the ladder of his work though determination and being open, however I wonder what happens after what shock the reviewer but through your review i can also agree with you that there's no one perfect in life even when we try out to balance it.

"The Tally Man" by Tod Benjamin follows Charlie Stoker, who faces a life-altering consequence of youthful indiscretion. Forced into marriage, his life crumbles as he discovers the true nature of his wife, Margret. Despite his success, Stoker realizes that wealth and achievement cannot always fulfill the deepest human longings. The novel explores the theme of flawed perfectionism, emphasizing that our weaknesses, however we address them, inevitably shape our lives.
