Indeed, experiences eventually shape perceptions and this could describe the view of most of the youthful characters. It is thrilling that such a book that sounds very realistic could also have several plot twists and turns.
Many thanks for the amazing review, @Alys Sterk.

I hear the mention of Vietnam war, but I have never taken time to follow through what happened during the war in Vietnam. What caused the eruption of this war? What happened during the war? And how did it end? I hope the story portrayed in this book will help answer all these questions.

I appreciate how the review highlights Steve’s internal struggles and how his decision to join the Providence Police Department impacts his relationships, especially with Roxy. It sounds like the book does a great job of showing both personal and societal conflicts during this turbulent time.

This book captures the tension and idealism of the Vietnam War era, offering a nuanced exploration of generational conflicts, political activism, and personal integrity. The story’s strength lies in its ability to present multiple perspectives without forcing a particular agenda, allowing readers to engage with the themes on their own terms. Nice review.

I know little about The Vietnam War and I hope this book valuable insights on this topic. I also like the fact that the book has both dynamic and twisted plot which are some of the aspects that attract me in any book. This is a good and simple review.

Many people's career path are fueled either by the things they love and enjoy doing or by the things they loathe and dislike. Logan's dislike for the ills in the police department pushed him into joining the police. I'd love to see how he manages this with his relationships.

This book sounds like an interesting read. This time period, with the civil rights movement and what happened at Kent state makes for good literature material. It's important for us to learn from history and see how hard won freedom we're won and at what cost.

Steve Logan joins the Providence Police Department after protests break out following the killing of students at Kent State University. It's a critical time as the war in Vietnam is a point of contention. The older generation doesn't understand the youth. How will Steve navigate these challenges?

You have made good points and a few tickled my mind.I just finished reading the sample and I see the novel really makes you think about perspective. Some characters are passionate to speak out on these issues and the others are in the movement but are not as passionate as example Roxy.

The Officer made a good point when he stated that “it’s easy to talk about change ,but to actually make a change , you have to get your hands dirty ,take risks. This statement can be applied in today’s world .

I would like to read this novel for interest and educational purposes .

Few students at Kent State university are killed. Protests are breaking out in almost every college campus in regards to Vietnam War. Our protagonist, Steve, joins police force amidst the chaos. He finds something that shocks him. What is it? How will he process his emotions. The author does not rub his political beliefs onto the reader and that's refreshing.

A young man, Steve, attends a meeting on reforming law enforcement and decides to join the Providence Police Department. This is at the height of Vietnam War protests among students. His decision leads to consequences. How will he navigate through them? The flawed characters are the book's highlight.
