I find it difficult to credit Sister B's being such a good influence on racial equality and the fact that she abandoned her son. How can such... apathy (at best) toward one's child and husband and supposed empathy toward total strangers exist in the same person? It just doesn't seem realistic to me. I won't be reading this one. Thanks for the wonderfully written review.

No matter what circumstances, I never will able to understand the leaving your child willingly. Unthinkable and inexcusable in my opinion, no surprise that I prefer to skip this one. No offence and congratulations with BOTD!

Sister B's life seems adventurous and intriguing. I like historical fiction, especially of they have some mystery and romance thrown into them. Congrats!

Sister B life sounds very familiar to what every one faces when one makes a decision to succeed. This Book seems to portray the life of the author herself as its too real to be just a figment of imagination. Nevertheless, Great Review!

Apart from an interesting story, it looks like this book gives a good historical insight into the origin of the racial problem in the USA.

Sister B seems like the ideal book for fans of well-written and highly engaging historical fiction novels centered around racial injustice. Thanks for sharing.

Sister B's story is motivating as she strives for a better future for her family. Racism seems to be the biggest obstacle she had to face. The subplot around Akio also sounds interesting.

This sounds like a strong story about having to overcome racism. Sister B sounds like she has had a long journey, but learned to fight for what she wants.

The work appears to be insightful, particularly in terms of racial inequity. Sister B appears to have gone through a lot to provide her family and children a brighter future. With a gripping plot, the novel is intriguing. This is a unique historical novel. Great review

I'm not sure I like Sister B leaving her son behind but I guess the story will explain her reasons for leaving. I love the racial difference between Sister B and Akio. I’d love to see where this story leads to.

I agree with other posters: I couldn't finish the sample. The blatant racism makes me want to vomit. We as Americans have lived through the live experiences this author writes about, and it's nothing I want to experience again, even in a "fiction" sense.

The book sounds interesting and compelling. It seems to be a good example to explain the issue of discrimination and show the struggle of a person being ostracise for the color of his/her skin. At the same time the book shows determination as Sister B "fights" for what she want in her life and gradually gets it. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I’m looking forward to digging this book to find out how the lives of Sister B and Akio will intertwine amid racial discrimination which is very relevant and timely. It is very interesting as well to one how Akio’s picture was used to trigger a war.
