Circumstances of War masterfully weaves together multiple storylines, offering a compelling portrayal of individuals navigating love, survival, and duty during wartime.
Definitely not my cup of tea, because I abhor all things war related as a whole and in particular the war crimes we have heard so much about recently. It is violence, cruelty on both sides and with civilians caught in between. Sorry, but I will have to skip.
I do not particularly like stories about war but this one gave me a run for my money. One thing is for sure the story was a heart touching one. Love in the midst of war, that takes a lot of courage. This book reminded me of all the people who fought ad bled to make this world a better place. I salute them all and thank them for all of their sacrifices. It was not in vain after all. And my life is proof of that
"Circumstances of War" by Robert John Gardner is a story that takes place in the 1930s as war in Europe brews with Hitler driving the confrontations. The story looks at the upcoming war from different perspectives. It begins in Springfield, IL and Munich, Germany and involves the Gordon twins and the Gittelsohn brothers. Aaron Gittelsohn has talents including tailoring that can be useful to the Nazis. The Gordon twins Mo and Max go different directions with Mo joining the U.S. Army and then falling in love with Janey the piano player who suffers from a physical disability. Senator Royce is a powerful man and did not want his son TR to go off to war but TR believed that he needed to fight in the war even though he had a privileged background. I can imagine the stress the Hitler driven war in Europe caused to Jews around the world. Jews and Germans in the U.S. also had conflicts at home. This is a book that portrays the ugliness of war in Europe and the bravery of Americans that joined the military because they believed in a free world. This is an excellent book that I highly recommend. The sample was excellent and I expect the rest of the book to live up to expectations.
This reading tells us a story with an incredible setting, rich in details and full of feeling. The most remarkable and beautiful thing is that the plot involves a genuine love that develops despite all the circumstances. #BOTD
Senator Royce's political endeavours intersect with the personal of Gordon and Gittelsohn families. Among the horrors of the holocaust. Aaron Gittelsohn talents secure his family survival. Mo Gordon navigates military life in Burma, finding solace in memories of home and his love for Janey.

The way Gardner blends personal love stories with the harsh realities of war is really powerful. The characters’ courage and emotional depth shine through, especially with Aaron’s bravery and Mo’s love for Janey. It’s a truly compelling and heartfelt journey.
