I learned things about the American Revolution from a different point of view. Adding a Seneca Indian and a woman to the mix was complex and added layers of knowledge that I hadn't thought of before.

If I were in the position of Julia Townset, I would have done the same by fleeing with the person I'm in love with. I would like to read this book to know what becomes of Julia and Ki's fate. Nice review!

Wonderful review revealing the special features of the book. I read few pages of the free book first and then read this review. I agree with what the reviewer has praised about the writing of the author.

“The Indian and Me” by Cathy DesRosiers is a story that takes place during the American Revolutionary War. The main character is Julia Rainsford, a woman born into a highborn family in England and she is forced into marriage with John Townset who decided to move to the New World and settle in America. They moved to an area near the tribal home of the Huron Seneca Indians and Julia was given the assignment of educating Ki, a mixed race white and Seneca Indian man, on the customs of Euro-Americans. John became a very abusive husband and began to plot Julia’s demise. She fled from her husband with Ki to his home with the Seneca Indians. The Revolutionary War was still being fought and the British, who motivated the Indians to help them fight the Patriots, took Julia captive and she was held for ransom. Ki was torn between his allegiance to his tribe and his love for Julia. American History taught us about the war and the year it ended but I need to read the book to learn what happens to Julia and Ki. Who pays the ransom for Julia and what happens to John? Is he charged with plotting Julia’s death? Do Julia and Ki spend the rest of their lives together? Do they stay with the tribe or begin a life together with the American patriots? I really enjoy stories that interweave historical facts. Three of the characters in this story actually lived in America during the war so the story is a combination of fact and fiction. I assume that Ms. Peebles can correct the errors the official reviewer found and publish a second edition that would receive a 5 out of 5-star rating.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I’m glad you enjoyed the blend of historical context and personal struggle in Ki and Julia’s story. The characters’ emotional journeys, especially Julia’s resilience and Megan’s courage, truly highlight the complexities of love amidst cultural challenges. The novel explores themes of resilience, identity, and the clash between European and Indigenous cultures, making it a poignant reflection on personal and societal change during the American Revolution.

The story is set during the American Revolution. It shows the story of a British woman, Julia, and mixed white and Huron Seneca Indians. Julia flees with Ki after her American husband plots her death. The British are in conflict with the Patriots. Patriots capture Julia, and Ki is left torn between his duty to his clan and love for Julia. The story serves as an interesting read.
