The book The Deseret Rekoning by Matthew L. Huffman is a story of adventure, personal growth, historical happenings, cross-time family connection, and self-discovery. Susan and Andrew are living together, though they are separated. She is an assistant historical acquisition specialist who works at the Smithsonian. Andre Harrison, Susan's ex-husband, an FBI agent who was unhappy because of the separation from his marriage, consistently links every negativity in his career to the ex-wife and their separation. He does find himself in a jealous mood, thinking that his wife's career may turn out better than his own.

During her work, she discovers a multi-generational letter dating to an 1870 wagon train traveling from Santa Fe, New Mexico, with pointers to the Desert Territory. With a further look into the letter, she discovers that its owner is Tom Sullivan, a distant relative of William Mitchell; at that time, he was twenty-six years old. She and Andrew went to look for Tom, and they found him with two of his friends, Jack and Frank.

Tom and two friends, Jack and Frank, set out to uncover the family history. In her quest to know the outcome of the letter and subsequent career elevation, Susan follows suit. With a surging sense of jealousy and bitterness, Andre tails Susan. What will their faith be? Will they uncover the hidden treasures? Will they succeed in their journey? Will Andrew stop Susan from achieving her dreams?

I like the book; it is fast-paced and very thoughtful. The storyline of the book is what I liked the most. The character development is also a plus to the book. The writing style is a positive aspect of the book.

There are no negative aspects to the book. I do not dislike the book. The editing is flawless. I rate the book The Deseret Rekoning by Matthew L Huffman 5 out of 5 stars. The reasons for my rating are above. I recommend the book to lovers of adventure. I recommend the book to young adults. Historical book readers will find the book interesting.
