[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Everything We Had" by Tom Burkhalter.]
Loyalty, strength, and determination are very important virtues for every soldier. Everything We Had by Tom Burkhalter is a history novel that describes the Pacific Air War and the role of the army in warfare.
In November 1941, America went to war with the Japanese, and the army was at the forefront of the battle. Jack Davis was a second lieutenant, a military personnel, and a pursuit pilot. Charlie Davis was a captain and also a military pilot. With very little supply of ammunition, fighter planes, and inexperienced men, it was going to be a very tough fight. The war was closing in on them, and they were left with only one choice. At their duty posts, together with their teams, they must fight the Japanese while showing bravery, grit, courage, and sacrifice. How will they pull this off?
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The display of strength, loyalty, courage, and sacrifice by the pilots and other members of the army was very inspiring and humbling. These men were ready to lay down their lives for their country, and they went into war uncertain of their survival. I also loved the vivid descriptions of the war planes and learned a lot about fighter planes and their operations. I particularly loved how the loyalty of the men was portrayed in the book. They showed strength even in moments of despair and in the face of gruesome deaths. They are the true patriots and heroes. It was a very inspiring read.
I do not dislike anything about the book. The book was beautifully written, with most parts in a conversational style that was easy to follow. Also, the military and aeronautic terms used in the book were well explained. Their day-to-day activities as military personnel were also described in great detail, which made it a very interesting and educational read.
I rate this book five out of five stars for its inspirational and well-delivered story. The book was expertly edited, and I found no grammatical or spelling errors while reading it. I recommend this book to individuals interested in discovering more about the 1941 Pacific War. I also recommend this to anyone interested in the American Army and aircraft as a whole. This is definitely a good read.
