Until the End of Time by Kristy Nichols is a historical fiction novel that begins in present-day Munich before taking readers back to Germany in 1912, a time when the Titanic had yet to sail and the German upper class traveled in Mercedes Knights. The story masterfully intertwines elements of romance, betrayal, heartbreak, and longing, crafting a tale that is both engaging and emotionally rich.

In the present, we meet Lena, an antique and collectible dealer who is faced with a life-altering decision—whether to marry her true love, Dennis. Alongside her best friend and business partner, Hannah, Lena attends a garage sale, where she discovers a heart-shaped silver locket. Inside, she finds a photograph of a young girl dressed in old-fashioned clothing and a young man. The girl in the locket bears an uncanny resemblance to Lena herself. Perphaps the locket can help her find the answers she's been desperately searching for.

The narrative then transports us back to the German town of Augsburg in 1912, where we are introduced to Theresa, a young woman who has just begun working as a maid in the household of Friedrich Werlinger, a wealthy German businessman. Friedrich has two sons, Karl and the younger Albert, who is the future heir to the family business. Albert is captivated by Theresa’s beauty and wit, and she, in turn, finds herself drawn to his charm. The two fall deeply in love, and Theresa soon becomes pregnant with Albert’s child. However, their love is forbidden; marrying Theresa would bring shame to Albert’s prestigious family. Their only hope lies in boarding a ship to America, where they can start anew and get married, but their plans must remain a secret. As forces within the household conspire against them, the question remains: Will they succeed in their journey, or will they be forced to part forever? Is this a tale of a happily ever after or one of heartbreak and unfulfilled longing?

One of the best parts of the book is its engaging plot. As a romance novel, it keeps readers hooked with its perfect pacing, well-placed steamy scenes, and the constant obstacles faced by the protagonists, which drive the story forward and keep readers turning the pages. The book also ends on a cliffhanger, leaving me eager to read the next installment as soon as possible.

Nichols paints a vivid picture of Germany in 1912. As a reader, I felt transported to an era where people wore Victorian dresses, the upper class had an army of servants, and the city was described with historical accuracy. The author’s research is evident, as she captures details like the German elite driving Mercedes Knights, which were launched around 1911, and the Titanic preparing to set sail in April of the same year.

Overall, I have no criticisms of the book. It's a beautifully crafted novel, free of grammatical errors, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance. The novel's engaging plot, well-developed characters, and vivid depiction of 1912 Germany make it a captivating read from start to finish. Nichols' meticulous research and the cliffhanger ending ensure that readers will be hooked and eager for the next installment. If you're looking for a book that combines romance, history, and a bit of enchantment, this novel is a must-read.
