As a lover of history and mystery books and anything that teaches me something new, I knew after reading the synopsis that I had to readThe Shogun's Gold by Curtis Piper. Boy, was I not disappointed; the author absolutely delivered. Before jumping into the bulk of my review, I'd like to provide my rating, which is 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is broken into 3 parts. In the beginning, we meet Parker West, who, while grieving the loss of his parents and cleaning out their home, discovers some interesting items in the attic that date back to 1860s Japan. Parker sets out to uncover a massive family secret about a samurai relative and the location where troves of Japanese gold may be hidden. The second part launches us back in time to Japan and America in the 1860s, and we follow the story of our samurai protagonist while he struggles to help his country on the brink of civil war. The final part is the thrilling conclusion to both the first and second parts of the book.

I adored this book. It had everything I wanted: mystery, intrigue, romance, and history. The writing was well-paced for the book, and the author's writing style is captivating and page-turning. Everything was laid out in vivid detail, and a wonderful picture was painted in my head. I loved how while reading, you can feel the author's love for the story they were writing. The amount of research that must have gone into this book is incredible. The author, through his book, taught me so many wonderful new things about Japanese culture and their history. I'm incredibly grateful to the author for that and was shocked to read of the similarities to my South Asian roots.

The reasons above are why I rated the book the way I did. I had not one negative thing to say about it, and there was nothing I disliked. It was well thought out, well-paced, immersive in its writing, and contained an exceptional plot. I found some typos while reading, but they did not hinder my enjoyment of the book.

I recommend this book to everyone; really, I think every person can find something great to take away from it. However, I strongly recommend it to lovers of history, romance, and mystery.

I am a fan of ancient Asian culture, especially the swords, fighting, etc. Shogun reminded me of the movie, lol. From your review, I can tell this will be the best fit for me to try.
