[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Love is a Jigsaw Puzzle" by Penelope Chaisson.]
Penelope Chaisson is a nurse, a mother, and an athlete. Her love for reading and writing started when her mother took her to the library, where she discovered the power of words to communicate emotions.
Penelope has managed to publish two books of poetry in under two years. Despite her busy schedule, she is determined to express her emotions through her poems, which showcases her true passion for writing. Her first book, Penelope's Purple Passions, received a lot of praise and was even nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award. It gained immense popularity on various internet platforms. Her latest book, Love is a Jigsaw Puzzle, is a collection of poems that beautifully captures the intricacies of falling in and out of love.
The book comprises a little over a hundred pages and contains about 65 poems. It is divided into four sections: Sweet, Sour, First Sight, and First Bite. The author expresses her varied emotions, including her pleasures, temptations, and sorrows, as well as her self-evaluation, observations on the circumstances, confusions, baby steps toward realization, and finally, liberation. The first section showcases how it feels to be in a fulfilling relationship. However, love is not always straightforward. At times, love can be complicated, much like the puzzle on the cover. The latter sections of the book focus on the challenging phases of falling in love. These experiences appear to be the author's own. However, I cannot be sure about it as it is not explicitly stated.
I admire the simplicity of the vocabulary since it makes the context incredibly accessible. These intense emotions, happy or otherwise, might impair one's ability to reason. A relationship places you amid a flurry of feelings, including exuberant joy and profound grief. I appreciated how each poem was so real and moving. They were thought-provoking and incredibly reassuring. Readers who find themselves in similar circumstances will acquire direction and be able to protect themselves while accepting vulnerabilities. It will act as motivation for self-preservation, development, and happiness. It will ultimately help nurture a sense of control. Some of my favorites are Thoughts, Reflections, Contemplations, Regrets, Good-byes, Walls, Go Ahead and Write.
There is nothing to dislike in this book. I want to add that the editors did a fantastic job because I did not notice any errors. The sketches interspersed throughout the book gave it more life and made it easier to relate to the poems. The author's message of resilience in the face of adversity and the courage to take calculated risks strikes a chord with me. For all the reasons mentioned above, I would give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
I would highly recommend this book to all adult women. It is a treasure trove of lessons that can help women going through challenging circumstances feel better, gain wisdom, and navigate the situation gracefully.
