Great guidelines to live by. But honestly do not agree with treating today as rock bottom. I have experienced many rock bottom days but the majority are really days I feel blessed and thankful for my experiences. I acknowledge the bad and truly appreciate the good days. God is too good not to appreciate good things and days.

I guess the poem is about being the best person you can be.
But what does "To rarely choose to do, but to do your best when you do." mean?
Wouldn't rarely choosing to do something mean the person in question is lazy?

This poem is both bold and balanced — a powerful definition of grace without sugarcoating it.

I especially resonated with:
“To choose to make where you are now your personal rock bottom before hitting actual rock bottom.”

That one line alone reflects so much wisdom — reminding us that grace often shows up before devastation, not after.

Thank you, Scott, for putting such complex emotional discipline into simple, impactful lines.

Scott Hughes’ poem What Grace Means to Me is a thoughtful and layered exploration of the human condition, wrapped in the concept of “grace.” It reads like a modern philosophical meditation, shaped by the tension between opposites—strength and softness, action and restraint, presence and detachment.

The poem expresses that grace is a soft but steady light that uplifts the soul, helps navigate life's struggles, and reminds us that we are never truly alone.

"The poem "What Grace Means to Me" is insightful and exquisitely written. Through striking contrasts, such as strength without aggression, love without blind trust, and confidence without arrogance, Scott Hughes encapsulates the essence of grace. Each line serves as a gentle reminder to live a balanced, purposeful, and emotionally mature life. Despite being brief, it has a profound effect."

What is being asked here is that can we be truly happy and at peace without facing big challenges?

This piece encourages individuals to find peace and grow from within, without needing hard times.
