Because the cardiac sphincter only allows one way flow, horses are unable to eructate (burp or vomit) that's why there's so many cases of colic. If their stomach is distended for too long, they can suffer from gastric rupture!

Did you know that acting would have actually made Robert Mitchum eructate, but his sphincter wouldn't allow it? He was usually quite colicky on the movie set.
