Question

Post by AlwaysWorthIt »

I received my notes for the review that I completed. It says that I did not bold the star review or italicize the title. I wrote my review in Word and copied over what I wrote so I know that I did these things correctly. Why didn't it copy cover correctly?

I realize that I have to do something special now aside from copy and pasting, but I am slightly irritated about it.

Yeah, I copy and paste from Word too but it won't copy what you have bolded or in italics already.

You can only use bold and italics on the website. So when you copy and paste it onto the site, that is when you highlight what you want placed in bold and click the icon. It is the same with italics.

I hope this makes sense. I'm not really good at explaining computer stuff to people lol :D

It makes sense. I'm just irritated that I spent time reading a book, that I didn't really like as much as a list of books I'm waiting to read, to write a review that gets serious point deductions because it didn't paste over the way I wrote it.

My suggestion is to write everything in Word, but without the italics/bold/etc. Then after you paste it into the website, take time to reread your review to find where you should have put them and use the buttons at the top of the message box. This gives you the benefit of another scan to check for typos and other mistakes as well! :D

This almost caught me out too, then I realised I had to format it all again in the box. Alas, spent all that time and let myself down because I used a semi colon instead of a colon.

You would think for a first review they could over look the fact the bold text didn't come through as you had quite clearly read the guidelines and included the rating in the required way, "I rate this x out of 4 stars" etc.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way for the editors to tell if it's a user's first review or not. I know that they cannot see your username so the review is graded fairly...
I like to think of it as a strong incentive to get into good habits quickly!

Before submitting, the option is there to preview your post. At that point, it is very clear that the bolding and italics didn't transfer. All you have to do is manually edit them and then submit.

I didn't think so either but I'm sure they can as one of them mentioned that it was my first review.

It's even written in the guidelines that you should always preview to make sure the formatting is correct.
