There's a coffee shop near me called Cafe Bassam that is run and owned by a French man. He plays old French music over the speakers and the coffee is delicious! Sadly, they're moving locations to a place well over twenty blocks away.

I especially like coffee when I am working or writing. I've been drinking too much lately, though...starting to get headaches.

I tried the new cafe in our foyer, and while their coffee is good, they take FOREVER to make it, so that checks them off the list. The place across the street has fantastic coffee, but before work it's impossible to even get in the door, it's so packed.
I have heard there is another cafe going into the square our building is in, and that a Shingle Inn is opening up out there too. Shingle Inn are Brisbane's most famous cake shops. Don't know what their coffee is like though. I hope one of them does good coffee, quickly and conveniently. I'm putting up with Gloria Jeans at the moment which is decidedly average.

Often I would get up at 4am and set off very early for my day of checking out the city. Even at that early hour, the minute I set foot out of my hotel in the heart of the city, I was carried off by the scent of dozens of wonderful coffees in all the cafes and coffee stands in lanes, alleys and back streets all through the CBD.
On the morning of my trip to the Victoria Markets I stopped off in one of the laneways at about 5am to grab a wake-me-up cup of coffee, and was nearly transported to heaven. I swear, it was ambrosial! Melbourne sure knows how to do coffee - in fact that was where the coffee culture first hit Australia, traditionally a tea drinking nation.

***Sidebar number 2- Border's has really good coffee. Just learned that today. Also, went to the library at my mall (yes the mall in California has a library. Very strange and wonderful. ) And stopped by Border's and got coffee at Border's. It was wonderful.. But I bought my books at the store in the library, because they are used and much cheaper.

Can't offer you my place (already have someone house-sitting) but who'll buy me a cup of coffee when I hit their neck of the woods?
And if you're coming to Brisbane (where I am), don't come in our summer. It's disgusting - I'm sweltering in over 80% humidity right now!
