I get really hacked off with all the nonsense talked about water, as if it's some kind of magic bullet for all your problems. That big con trick by the water bottlers to make people believe that they've got to drink litres of the stuff a day to cure or prevent, well just about everything.

None of that is supported by science. It all stemmed from some research which suggested a figure for the amount of water a person should have per day, though it concluded that most of it was gained from food anyway. Everyone seems to ignore that last bit.

Fact is, very very few people get 'de-hydrated'. They get thirsty, which is nature's way of telling you that you might soon get dehydrated, but you get plenty of warning. You can be thirsty for hours before you get actually dehydrated and it starts to affect your performance.

They've also taken the logically wrong leap, which a lot of snake-oil salesman do, of declaring that because lack of a substance is bad for you, more of it must be good for you. The whole vitamin industry is based on this false premise too.

The whole idea of 'detox' is completely made-up too. Water or tea or whatever is not going to flush any toxins out of your body. It does that on its own very well, that's what your liver is for. People fall for it though, as they believe that some kind of penance is all they need to counterbalance the abuse they give their body. It's not scientifically sound though, in any way.

Gosh. I was told by my seventh grade health teacher and then my nutrition professor to drink at least 8oz of water, whether I was thirsty or not.

Did you ever hear the story of the man who died from a glass of water? Well...it's a good one. :D

And, I dunno about the vitamin rant, either. Staying in all Saturday with juice (vitamin c) and gatorade has cut down my cold from three weeks to two days. I'm just healthy, though. Don't know why.

Anyway, I assumed this was about our favorite alcoholic drink. Heh. Guess that's just me? ...

Mmmmm....green tea. Do you buy it in bags or do loose leaf? Do you like brown rice tea? I love it, but most people don't like it much.

Tap water is the best in my opinion. It is extremely convenient. It does not leave any waste product. It is always immediately available in case of a food-in-throat or a foul-mouth emergency.
