Why do so many people join this forum and so few stay?

MarieMc wrote:I am fairly new here, but for me it seems as though there is not a lot of 'conversation' its more like everyone posts random thoughts to the topic question. Maybe I am looking at the 'wrong posts', but I try to catch ones that have activity, and maybe that is part of my downfall. The active ones are the ones that have simple almost thoughtless responses. I want more than that. Perhaps I should give more than that, but then who is going to respond? Very few.

Or perhaps some of new members are just looking for a place to sort of interact without getting too involved and maybe others want the seasoned members to interact with them first so they feel welcomed... I think when I joined only two people said hello to my intro post. That doesn't feel very welcoming. So the temptation is to move on to another forum that is more welcoming.
I am sorry you feel that way. I think the site is very user friendly and most members are great. The problem is that some people just join for the free ride, so they don't bother interacting with others or contributing much to the site. About the welcoming part, there are so many new members each day, one doesn't always have the time to welcome them all. We all have life beside the site.

Moreover as many just join for the free ebooks, they don't bother to participate after the few obligated posts and one gets discourage from welcoming them all.

There are a lot of meaningful posts here among the random ones. Some threads have a lot of responses and it is impossible to refer to them all. I am sure that if you give more, you will get more. A few good answers are better than many shallow ones.

Anyway, welcome to the site. 8)

I am new here, so I don't know, but maybe your scary avatar frightens them off.
:P
LOL, I guess maybe because they sign up to write reviews and earn but then they learn of the requirements and the level required so they give up :(

I am new too and I joined with the same purpose but I learnt to enjoy everything here :)

I try to enjoy all of my time here, not just the reviews. They are very cool, but so is posting and interacting with all of the people on the threads. Take in the whole experience! You'll be glad you did! :D

So how many people are actually on here? Right now I am looking at the "Who is online" and it says users browsing this forum Me and 0 guests. Is that the WHOLE forum or just the Thread I am on? I guess I answered my own question, I clicked on Who is online and found 4 names in the last 9 minutes. So maybe the question is, if you WANT more activity, what can be done to generate that activity? I ran a chat group years ago... and as long as there was good conversations going on and each person felt that were being heard, people stayed, but the second it turned to nothing but posted games and no real conversation content... people faded out. Just some thoughts.... Do I have the answer? No, because I am not the one with the vision for this forum and I don't presume to know better than the creator what is wanted. Maybe this is exactly how the creator wants it?

If you click on the 'forum home' then scroll to the bottom you can see how many people are currently online on the entire site along with various other stats.. like how many members there are... who was the last person to register... if there are any birthdays today... etc. Usually I've noticed that at any point in time there are about 30 or so people online. I think this particular topic is referring more to the large number of people who are registered and yet they hardly return to the site after their initial week of signing up.
