There's a Lake Marion in California and Ohio (the state where I was born) certainly has a Marion.

As to another place that sucks, I don't think many people would want to visit Death Valley in the summertime. At least they don't want to have car trouble there. Yes, I did visit there in early summer and my car broke down. There is a service station in the valley, but they don't work on cars - it's too hot to work on anything. The only thing in the garage is a tow truck that could transport any kind of vehicle, up to and including a Winnebago. We were towed to Pahrump, Nevada, about a hundred miles away. It cost me three hundred dollars. The garage in Pahrump couldn't find anything wrong with the car, so they charged me a hundred dollars and sent me on my way. I made it back to Victorville, Ca. before it broke down again. I was towed from Victorville for two hundred dollars, making it six hundred bucks in all to get home. I traded in the car the next day.

That sounds like the proverbial lemon. I go through Baker about once a year at the end of Death Valley and everything there looks like its all melted. I went through there last March and it was fairly cool. Only 103.

Theres a Eureka in every state too. Im from Eureka, Utah.

Speaking of Baker, Bighuey, I once locked my keys in my car when I went into a restaurant there. When I discovered the problem, after eating a burger in the restaurant, I returned to the counter to ask if anyone in town might be able to get into my car. They directed me to a man in their back room, a custodian of sorts. He was into my car in thirty seconds. I was happy to get into my car, but I was taken aback by his ability to break in so quickly. Believe me, I make sure I don't leave my keys or anything valuable in my car when I stop in that town. There is a Greek restaurant that we stop at now. Pretty good food.

I never stayed there long enough to eat anything. With that raw sewage stench and the heat I stop long enough to buy gas and go on my way. When I go to Utah I stay in Jean at the Gold Strike. Rooms are cheap and the food is good.

Oh, it's not that bad! Especially at the beach! The cockroaches (waterbugs to us Southerners) are terrible, I'll give you that, for sure.

I hate to throw an entire country under the bus, but I will not be heading back to Australia any time soon. It is not that the country is bad, its that most of the east coast of Australia isn't much different than the west coast of the US, at least in my estimation and the places I visited. But a bigger problem is that it takes 18 hours to get there and 18 hours to get back. On our way down we stopped in Tahiti (I would go back there in a heartbeat), which was a good break, but that trip back was a killer. At 6'3", they don't make a "coach" seat that I can sit in for the better part of a day.

Another place I didnt like is Guam. The heat, the humidity, you take a shower and 10 minutes later you need another one. I suppose the country itself is not a bad place, but I was there while in the Navy. No activities that a 19 year old sailor would be interested in, if you know what I mean. No cigarettes and whiskey and wild wild women.

I have a friend that goes to Guam once a year on business. He is a government contractor. That's another long trip with no significant benefit, unless of course you are paid to go there.

It was when I was there. Unless you like heat and jungles.
