Hi all
I belong to a poor country with a lot of electricity breakdowns. Does it go off in your country also?

We get them here once in a while, when someone runs into the powerpole on the main highway or a transformer blows but its not usually off long, the head guy for the substation lives in my town and he isnt going to go without electric for very long.

We have compulsory tree trimming because the bulk of power failures occur when branches fall on lines. It really hurts older homeowners when the authorities come onto private property to hack and slash their mature trees.

In fairness we rarely have power outages & even when we do they are pretty good at getting it restored.
Our power cable are not generally located near main roads so it would be very unusual for anyone to accidentally bring down a pole or transformer. Our biggest culprit would be lightening storms and of course, in winter high winds in rural areas.

We have them a lot, because it's always freezing here like Canada... Without Snow.
Storms constantly and thunder, blowing out everything, the satellite included. One time, we had to wait a full night and day before my father went and got the power back on... That was a trip to the 30s and back.

Things like that make a person realise just how dependent we are on electricity.

Well it is not the matter of poor or rich because I am leaving in UK and there is also frequent electricity cut we have to face.

Very rarely in the heart of Waterford, they may put it off for a few hours in the early morning the odd time when doing roadworks nearby but apart from that, nothing. Im lucky really.

Honestly in my area electricity breakdowns take place rarely as well.
But I have problems with hot water and this a disaster for me to take a cold shower every morning.
So it's better to live without electricity, but with hot water.

I've been in Japan for about 5 years now, and I've only experienced a power outage maybe once the whole time I was here. That was when I lived in a small area in the countryside. But I heard that after the earthquake in 2011, a lot of places were without power for a while.

Not that often, used to be more, here in East of England. But can anyone solve this problem? When the power comes on after being off, my TV goes onto full volume, not nice for me, worse for neighbours!! There are ways of getting round it if I remember, lilke putting on an 'empty' channel, but it's still annoying.

The best thing to do when your power goes off is to turn off your main circut breaker. Sometimes when the power comes back on, there is a surge that can be as high as 440 volts. Just turn your main switch on from time to time to see if you have power. I lost a microwave oven and some surge strips that got fried after a power outage. Every electrical thing I have is connected to surge strips even when the power is on you sometimes get power surges.

This is a funny thread. Especially because a word (the MAIN word, no less) is misspelled in the thread title. It almost makes me want to

. I've seen other instances of this in the forums. And I wonder.
Well, somtimez the elctricity geos off, but thats why we have candels, right?
