Do Whites purchase books written by African Americans with an "urban perspective"?

Of course. As long as the book is intriguing and well written, what does it matter who wrote it??

I disagree that it is a non issue. If you go into a lot of smaller, independently, white owned bookstores, books by African Americans are most often found in the "Urban" section regardless of its genre and those sections are very small or the books have to be ordered. Books by African American authors do not occupy as much space in bookstores as white authors and it's not due to a lack of available titles. So why is that? I ask again, Do Whites but books written by African American authors with an urban theme?

To be honest, I had no idea that there was even such a thing as an "urban perspective" and I wouldn't even be able to tell if the book was written by an African American before buying it...
So technically, I guess I have never bought one, but then again, I've never intentionally NOT bought one either. I just like paranormal stuff these days.

I wasn't aware of the "urban perspective" either until I saw it in a small local bookstore. I'm still not even sure what it really means. It certainly wasn't explained very well.

I don't understand how "urban perspective" can even be a catagory, am I missing something or is this a uniquely US affectation?

I've never knowingly rejected or selected a book based on the ethnicity or gender of the author.

I had never heard of it before. It seems almost like a classification meant to divide more than to bring together.

Well I have never loaned or purchased a book based on the authors ethnicity. Ones ethnicity no matter what, has never really been a deciding factor of anything for me.
The fact that bookstores are making it a classification is indeed sad and something that really should be a non issue.
