Should Scott get a home gym?

For those who don't know, I generally go to the gym everyday. I lift weights of a heavy nature.

I recently suffered an awful experience at the gym. I went and it was boiling hot.

I am considering purchasing a home gym.

Pros
- Save time spent driving to the gym
- Workout anytime 24/7
- Can workout when kids are home without needing a babysitter
- Home not as gross and germ-ridden as gym

Cons
- I might collapse through the floor while doing squats and die.

What do you think?

A home gym costs a lot more upfront, but I figure it's a wash since I can save on gym fees and gasoline for many years and resell the weights in the future if needed.

But considering your concern about something falling through the 2nd floor, put it downstairs.

I'm glad you posted. I hadn't seen you here in a couple of days, and I was beginning to wonder if you were okay! I think a home gym is a great idea (just don't go too cheap. You'll end up investing more in the long run if you do.) I have an exercise bike that I bought at Sears 10 years ago, and it is still going strong.

You can't fall through your parents' basement floor and there is free babysitting g there too! ;)

I think you should get a home gym. Just be careful. And putting it in the basement is a great idea. :)

I also think getting a home gym would be beneficial for all the reasons you've listed. As far as your con is concerned, I agree with others - a basement would be an ideal spot. Good luck! You'll have to let us know the outcome! :D

1st of all...do you have a basement? Maybe you live in an apartment w/o access to a basement?? And, just think, your fridge and stove don't fall through the floor so I'm sure your home gym won't either...hopefully!!!

2nd, I think a lot of people go to the gym because they also enjoy the social aspect of it, especially if they work from home. Is that where you go as your "outlet" so that you can venture out of the house? Will no longer having that social interaction bother you?

3rd, I tried doing this once by getting a treadmill at home. However, I wasn't motivated enough to do it at home. I always found myself saying, "okay, I'll work out later...later...later...tomorrow." Now, the treadmill that I bought is a really expensive hanger for my laundry. Oopsie! Not going to the gym each day to meet up with the person I worked out with, caused me to eventually not work out at all. Do you have a work out partner or do you work out alone? If you generally work out alone, then I'm sure you will be fine motivating yourself to keep with your work out schedule.

Just some things to think about.... :-)

Oh yeah...I'm not going to vote because I don't really know enough about your situation. Unless...you respond to the questions I posted, then I'll vote. :-)
