Just curious if anyone will be watching this tonight? I suspect that I will and then feel guilty afterwards I read today in the papers that there will be a parrot that eats mashed potato.

Im not a fan at all. To be honest, i think the whole reality format has completely overstayed its welcome by about 5 years and yet they are still churning out show after show of nonsensical tripe like "When Celebs Take The Bus To Work", "Celebrity come dine with me", "Celebrity Driving School" etc etc. The format was fresh and original when Big Brother originally launched back in 1999 but 11 years later we really need more scripted drama along the lines of Lost and 24 or else we are doomed to spending every saturday night watching a group of talentless nobodies spill some sob story about their second cousin dying of cancer two days before their audition and now they are "doing it for Jerry.....cue tears and lower lip wobbling" and the stupid gormless audience fall for this hook,line and sinker and vote the brave soul through.......repeat as above for all reality shows

I hate reality TV shows and nonsense of this kind, but I am always tempted to watch. I dislike McDonalds, but I sometimes eat Big Macs! I do not know if you are old enough to remember, but in the 70s there were amazing dramas. On the downside comedy was dreadul - Jimmy Tarbuck etc, today we are blessed with great comedy (I love stand up)

The only good reality show was "The Mole". Of course, they took that one off the air rather quickly. Why am I not surprised.

I grew up watching great shows like A Team and MacGyver and to a lesser extent Beverly Hills 90210

But around the end of 1999. start of 2000 the reality bubble took over completely and shows like Pop Idol, X Factor and the insufferable American Idol were born. I did find some of the reality shows fascinating and even funny but nothing can stay popular forever and the format is jaded by now. Of course, its cheaper to make reality tv as none of the stars (mostly) are famous faces wanting big paycheques, so its mass-produced across all the channels out there.

I cant remember many shows from the 70s im afraid but i do watch some old detective shoes like Columbo and also great comedies like Fawlty Towers- classic.

Not my cup of tea at all ... the odd time I've seen any of these X-factor type prog. I end up wondering are they all tone deaf or could they possibly be so delusional as to think they have talent.

But obviously from the programme makers point of view they are cheap to produce & they seem to have an unlimited pool of people willing to make fools of themselves on TV.

So the answer is No I most definitely will not be watching

StephenKingman, I also LOVE Columbo. There is something really quirky about that show that I like. It goes without saying that Fawlty Towers is a great classic, but I enjoy the lesser charchters best - The Major in particular. Andrew Sachs? Hmmm...not so sure, bit of an old ham.

Yes, you cant improve on perfection, i recently saw a few Fawlty Towers episodes, as well as Only Fools and Horses, and they are just as funny now as 30 years ago, true classics!

Nowadays tv is so incredibly transient and forgettable, seriously nobody will even remember X Factor in a few years and will likely wonder what all the fuss is about. On the topic of BGT, though, its quite scary to think that a complete unknown like Susan Boyle can be so completely transformed in less than a year from a dowdy dreamer to a global superstar, crazy!

It is the same with Big Brother, they are all over the news one minute and then gone the next. The 4th Estate and these impresarios are in cahoots, saves them the mental effort of reporting stories that matter. So, we all live in a vacuous media bubble consuming tittle tattle and we wonder why education standards and culture are suffering.

I think everyone has the right to express whatever he or she wants even parrots or cats or mice. We are all equal here.

Parrots are very intelliegent and make great companions, although they do need a lot of attention and human company or they become unhappy. The parrot that was supposed to eat potato did not oblige though. Nevermind, I am sure we are all looking forward to tonights delightful offerings
