Favorite Unusual Words for Colors?

Magenta. Also vermillion, though I always struggle to remember whether it is crimson or green because my first encounter with that word was a debate between two characters in a book. Someone said my hamster was "apricot-coloured" yesterday, which I thought was great. I always thought he was ginger!

I like vermilion, too. Although I spelled it wrong just now. I believe it means a deep red. It sounds so flowery and Victorian.

I think "apricot-colored" is very evocative. The use of "ginger" for bright orange hair always used to confuse me. I believe it's only used in British English. Here is America we just say "red" hair. So I have only encountered it in British books.

If it counts, I like the use of midnight to describe a dark blue or purple, maybe even black. It's so versatile!
