Which vice will you pick?

Post by C0ldf1re »

What is your favourite vice, and will you try to give it up for Lent?

Shrove Tuesday / Mardi Gras / Pancake Day starts Lent.

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrove_Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day, Pancake Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, and Mardi Gras) is a term used in English-speaking countries, especially the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia,[2] New Zealand, Philippines, and parts of the United States[3] for the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of fasting and prayer called Lent.
The word shrove is related to the English verb to shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by way of confession and doing penance. During the week before Lent, sometimes called Shrovetide in English, Christians were expected to go to confession in preparation for the penitential season of turning to God. Shrove Tuesday was the last day before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, and noted in histories dating back to 1000 AD. The popular celebratory aspect of the day had developed long before the Protestant Reformation, and was associated with releasing high spirits before the somber season of Lent. It is analogous to the continuing Carnival tradition associated with Mardi Gras (and its various names in different countries) that continued separately in European Catholic countries.
In the United States, the term Shrove Tuesday is less widely known outside of people who observe the liturgical traditions of the Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, and Catholic churches.[4][5] Because of the increase in many immigrant populations and traditions since the 19th century, and the rise of highly publicized festivals, Mardi Gras has become more familiar as the designation for that day.
In the United Kingdom and many other countries, the day is often known as Pancake Day. Making and eating such foods was considered a last feast with ingredients such as sugar, fat and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the ritual fasting associated with Lent.
From: http://www.when-is.com/lent-2011.asp
Lent in 2011 will start on Wednesday, the 9th of March and will continue for 46 days until Saturday, the 23rd of April.
So will you give up smoking, drinking, lusting after Lily Allen, or what?

Good going Mike... you can do it, darling!

I never tell anyone what i give up for Lent. Sometimes they figure it out if their around me long enough, but i never tell them. Lent seems like a personal thing that should be between me and my God. I appraise other people for being open with their choices, but i see it a bit diffrently for myself. :)

Well, Swing, just think of this. Somebody who expects a short life is planning to meet God soon. Best keep in His good books.

Procrastination. I always have all the time in the world to manage things...and even if I somehow brilliantly get things done in impossible deadlines, it still remains a huge problem of mine.

Not that I expect short life, just saing that life is short in general. In best scenario I have 1/4 of my life behind me already and it felt like a moment. Well, meeting God is not in my plans... But, I dicided to give up on chocolate... let's see how long I'll manage. Tough task.

Damn....But you really can't give up orgasms, can you? You would have to give up far too many things to stop an orgasm. Death and la petite mort just can not be stopped.

And orgasms aren't a vice, they're a right.
