A woman can select a donor that appears to have above average qualities in particular areas, such as intelligence and physical attributes.
The rule goes, ''hyphens are necessary when they function as a compound adjective modifying a noun.'' In this case above average is the compound adjective, and qualities is the noun. Should there be a hyphen?
