Firstly, my favorite kind of book or novel is one that is based on a true event :techie-studyingbrown: , and since this novel is based on a true occurrence, I will definitely enjoy it. I found this book interesting from the first chapter after reading the book sample. The review is written really nicely. Upon reading the review, I discovered that a group of housewives from Philadelphia collude with a local tailor to assassinate their husbands in order to obtain money. I'll definitely give it a go because, as the critic says, it's much more than just a sensational crime story. Congratulations on BOTD, author. :tiphat:

The Wicked Wives by Gus Pelagatti is a crime novel based on a true story from 1930s Philadelphia. It shares the horrific murder mystery committed by seemingly innocent housewives to gain insurance money. What Lillian did to Reggie was unnerving and shocking. It will be an interesting read, as I have always loved a good murder mystery. I have added it to my 'To read' list. Congratulations on the BOTD!

Thank you for the great review. It was very well written. I read the Kindle sample of The Wicked Wives, a historical fiction novel based on a true story by Gus Pelagatti. The author's career as a Philadelphia trial lawyer with 47 years of civil and criminal experience more than qualifies him to retell this intriguing story of the 1938 Philadelphia poison scandals. His thorough research and interviews with those directly involved in the prosecution of the cases help him masterfully recount how 17 unfaithful wives were arrested with their lovers for the poisoning of their husbands to collect insurance money that they desperately needed during the Great Depression. It is an enjoyable read, and I look forward to finishing it.

The premise of 'The Wicked Wives' sounds like a captivating blend of historical fiction and true crime, centered around a series of shocking murders orchestrated by Philadelphia housewives. The detailed backstories of each character and their motives, coupled with the colorful 1930s setting, promise a rich and immersive reading experience. While the rapid pace at the beginning draws the reader in, the gradual shift to arrests and trials maintains engagement throughout.

Nice review! Yet another intriguing pick right on time for National Women’s Day lol.
I think the author would have benefitted by using a different title than The Wicked Wives. The title makes the book sounds like a cheesy romance or a chick-lit story about witches. This is an excellent story that should appeal to both men and women. A different title might attract a wider group of readers.
I understand where they’re coming from with this. I couldn’t even tell you what a better title would be, but I figure it could be something a bit more gender neutral (if nothing else). Maybe, something putting more focus on the mystery and suspense of the crime?

"The Wicked Wives" is a gripping dive into historical crime, masterfully blending fact with fiction. Pelagatti's legal background enriches the narrative, presenting complex characters and a vivid 1930s Philadelphia. Despite a potentially misleading title, this tale offers a captivating, well-paced exploration of greed, betrayal, and the human condition. A must-read for those who relish true crime and historical accuracy.

While the subject matter is dark, Pelagatti's skilled writing and attention to historical detail make 'The Wicked Wives' a thoroughly engrossing read. The backstories of the wives and their complex motivations are fascinating, and the author deftly weaves their individual stories into a cohesive narrative.

Poor husbands thought they were signing up for “till death do us part,” but little did they know it came with a fine print: “or until your wife decides she needs a new hat.” Congrats to the author, #BOTD!
